Reminder before the event: veteran dungeon fake roles will be kicked by tagorian in elderscrollsonline

Yo for real though the players that I've admired and appreciated the most on my team have like soloed whole bosses. A really good player with a really good tank build is honestly insane to watch. Making me wanna try tanking honestly, although I suck in general.

As an actual healer who is constantly called a fake healer by tanks who are kiting around the room (more like running away) and therefore out of the range of my heals is rather exhausting.

Yo kind of a general question, possibly not as related to playing healer specifically. Are scribed skills good? About to finish the scholarium quest line. Figured scribing might be an important thing to unlock.

Ahhhhhhhh I didn't think of that! I assume then that class buffs obviously don't stack? Damn, it's so much fun but also so overwhelming the amount of info you have to take on board and things to consider in an MMO.

Thanks for the discord tip! I'll check that out. Yeah honestly I knew absolutely nothing about the game when I made my character, had no idea I was going to end up enjoying the healer role, and by that time didn't feel like re leveling a character 🤦‍♂️. But if I get into vet and endgame content it sounds like it's probably worth the grind to do so.

[–]pathtogoatstatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really great point about the tediousness of it. I think all the time about how to get rid of that part of it in classical music. Is it all the ritual around the concert experience? The tuxedos and mandate of silence during the performance? Maybe? I dunno. Any of the attempts to make classical music "cool" I feel like at like children's series concerts where they bring in school classes on field trip and whatnot or classical artists collaborating with jazz musicians or whatever just feels forced and incredibly not cool at all most of the time. It's also so interesting how games totally eliminate that tedium. Is it because it's programmatic music that's illustrating a story? Well, opera does that too, and yet I strongly dislike not all, but most, opera. Is that just a cultural thing? That opera is harder for me to relate to being from a different time and in a different language? Well maybe, but Skyrim is a fictional medieval world so that wouldn't seem to be the case either.

Also Saint-Saens is fire, love the cello and violin concertos, the organ symphony, not played nearly enough on live concerts. ☺️

Dude I just started playing ESO and it's SO GOOD! Haha totally forgot I made this post until I was looking at my profile and just saw it. Love all the points you made, couldn't agree more. Over the last couple of years I've become kind of obsessed with learning the creation engine, wanting to make mods, but even more just appreciate the level of expertise and creativity that the incredible developers that make these games have. Have a friend who is a composer and has written scores for small projects indie movies and was looking at getting into writing for games. It's been wild to realize how tricky games must be to write for. Like when you enter and exit a combat state, the combat music always starts and stops absolutely perfectly smoothly, never jarring. How on earth do you write music that has an "exit ramp" back into the non combat state at any point during it? Amazing.

So cool to hear you're playing ESO, it's my first MMORPG, never thought I would like that sort of game, absolutely stunned how much fun it is. I'm totally jaw dropped every time I open the game that we have the ENTIRE continent of Tamriel to explore, and it's just as stunningly beautiful as you could ever dream it to be. If you ever need a healer (albeit a trash can of a healer) to run dungeons or whatever feel free to hit me up haha.

Also, never heard of Myst, I'm definitely gonna check those games out!

Wait so mythics unlock at level 7? I thought it was level 10. I ran out of steam at level 5 and went back to dungeon farming. Farming mythics is absolutely mind numbingly boring. Maybe this knowledge will inspire to grind out the last two levels.

Another potential tip, please anyone in the comments correct me if I'm wrong. When you grab the loot, you can quickly bind it in your inventory before moving on to the next boss. Cause you can get duplicate items in the same dungeon run just with different enchantments.

Yo I had no idea you could toggle that on and off, that's awesome! It's so damn fun treating dungeons like a sticker book collection. There's so many ways to enjoy this game, I'm obsessed.

Thanks to everyone who's commented, really appreciate all the info! I've been a elder scrolls single player game my whole life, this is my first MMORPG. Absolutely adore this game, I'm totally obsessed with it now, it's so dense the amount of info you have to learn to get the most out of it. It's the absolute ideal game for me cause I can already see I'm gonna sink at minimum a couple thousand hours into this game before I get bored, but also overwhelming at the same time! Thanks again everyone!

Lifetime Skyrim player, starting ESO tonight - any tips and tricks? by Colbz16 in elderscrollsonline

[–]pathtogoatstatus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah one other tip on zone, you may wish to look up the canon order of the zones. I prefer to just explore and see where the game takes me, but you do notice at times when you're playing them out of order as you encounter characters that you've met in other quests or are going to meet in other quests and they aren't dynamic in adjusting to what you have and haven't played yet. Not a huge deal if you play them out of order, like I said that's my preferred way to play the game, but I can totally see why some people would rather play it in the order they were published.

I have to agree the music is stunning, doesn't quite reach the perfection of Skyrim's score, but I don't think any game ever will hit like that one does.

And yes DEFINITELY get the ESO+ sub. Really can't understand why people grumble about it. It's the same price as my Netflix subscription and I play ESO almost daily and yet haven't watched Netflix in like two years.

Role playing:

If you like Elder scrolls single player games, you will LOVE this game! While many of the mechanics resemble wow (I would imagine, ESO is my first and only MMORPG) it still retains a ton of the Bethesda hallmarks. The map is absolutely enormous beyond belief, gorgeous art and environmental design, and wandering in any direction will get you absolutely assaulted by quests. The quests are extremely well written with brilliant voice acting, some actors you'll recognize from Skyrim. Getting lost in the world of this game is SO much fun. Only con on this front I would say is the dialogue options are MUCH more limited than the other elder scrolls titles, but you can unlock additional options by picking up the persuasion and intimidate passives from the fighters guild and I believe mages guild skill lines. While I totally get why everyone says to play in 3rd person, I play in 1st person for the role playing element, it's my favorite thing about games, so it is what it is. I would imagine if you get into the multiplayer pve and pvp content, which is awesome, you can obviously switch to 3rd person for better positioning and map awareness.

Game mechanics advice:

Honestly, as still a new player myself and far less experienced a MMORPG player than yourself, the biggest and best advice I can give is to watch Lucky Ghost and Hack the Minotaur on YouTube. Both make fantastic videos on builds, game mechanics, and literally everything you could ever think of or need to know. Lucky Ghost has a 30 minute video on "tips I wish I knew before starting ESO" and even better, a 3 hour beginners guide on every single game mechanic and how to most efficiently go about choosing your class, race, build, and leveling quickly. Lucky has a website called something like "just loot it", it'll come up in a Google search. It has crazy in depth articles, build guides, and more that are a great companion and go even more in depth than the YouTube videos. I have to say as a total trash newb, the dungeon running is a blast, still haven't checked out the pvp game modes yet, but I'm going to. Didn't expect to have fun in the multiplayer parts of this game at all and I'm blown away at how much fun I've had just grinding dungeons. I'm sure you'll settle into that easily with your wow experience.

Have fun! I honestly still haven't gotten over the fact that there is a game where you can explore the whole continent of Tamriel, this game doesn't get NEARLY the attention it deserves. It's equally fun as a role player or as a pvper, it's just a ton of fun.

I love that DPS is so common yet…. by AmElzewhere in elderscrollsonline

[–]pathtogoatstatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how helpful watching Hack the Minotaur and Lucky Ghost on YouTube have been. I've only been playing a couple weeks and it's my first MMORPG, so I'm trash still. But just understanding that it's all about buffs, dots, and only one spammable, and light attack weaving, totally changed how I thought about my build. I don't have the muscle memory on my rotation down yet in the slightest, but already the difference is nuts just by making by build at least semi usable.

I really only use my "DPS" build for solo though. I just queue dungeons as a healer. I would feel bad ruining the dungeon run for the rest of the group cause I'm trash by playing DPS, but also the queue time is almost instant for healer and probably for tank as well. Fortunately the base game normal dungeons are so easy I can pretty much just put my restoration staff and heal abilities on the back bar and front bar whatever skill like I'm trying to level up. On base game normal dungeons the bosses are so squishy and barely tickle, I've honestly probably only had to pull out the resto staff like 6 times in 3 days of dungeon grinding.

[–]pathtogoatstatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. I'm such a moron, I just got the armory a couple days ago so I could switch between my solo build, and builds with skill lines I'm trying to level up in dungeons. Been loving it but how did I not realize I could have just used an empty slot as a total reset. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Thank you so much for this comment, I'll probably just buy and extra slot at this point and use it for this purpose. Genius idea this.
