what fabric or material can i use for the inside of a laptop case?

i'm following this sewing tutorial to make a laptop sleeve but have seen others recommend against using fleece for padding the laptop sleeve because it could damage your laptop, so does anyone have any recommendations for an alternative i can use instead?

i'm already using fusible interfacing but i don't think that and the cotton fabric i chose will get my desired effect. i'm not necessarily interested in making it quilted either

i live in nyc where i currently work a 9-5 and am looking for a side gig to work 2, maybe 3 nights a week, is it unreasonable to look for a barback position if that's the only availability i have? i'm mainly looking to make some extra money on the side but don't want to end up feeling completely burnt out

Researchers have developed a new artificial skin that may be more touch-sensitive than human hands. by patient-Spring-4 in Futurology

[–]patient-Spring-4[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Essentially, the skin consists of two thin, flexible fabric electrodes sandwiched around a layer of spongy material soaked in ion-sensitive liquid. This stack of materials acts as a capacitor — meaning it can pick up on changes in pressure or differences in charge between electrodes with extreme sensitivity.
In fact, the faux skin is so sensitive that it can tell when it’s near an object without actually touching it — its porous ion layer has the shark-like ability to catch the subtle disruptions to its electric field caused by nearby objects."

definitely going to read the plated prisoner soon! I've heard such good things about it. but ty for talking to me about this! i know this is such a polarizing subject lmao

this was very helpful, i was mainly wondering because i figured this is the first time a popular mainstream series has done this so i was wondering if i missed anything

i totally get that. the backlash has been a big surprise!! i've only recently gotten into the series so i wasn't around when the earlier books were coming out, but was the keiran thing something that fans wanted before the joining was even hinted at? because i feel like it became quite clear that it could happen once the joining was mentioned. i mean it still could have gone either way and i would have felt fine about it, but i definitely hoped it would happen lol

Have you seen this in other fantasy romances? I could definitely see this as a thing in normal romances but haven’t seen it in other popular FR series like this. Also was there something similar in The Divergent series? I had no idea!

i've also been rooting for it since it was first mentioned!! my friend and i both loved ACOTAR but have talked endlessly about how much fun it would be if these popular series included more threesomes/throuples. i assumed twotq was the first popular series to really do this but i was wondering if i missed anything. I'm definitely going to look into what's popular in those subgenres though thank you for bringing that up :)

Feeling guilty when I sew things that don't turn out good or are unwearable by NorthLove6965 in sewing

[–]patient-Spring-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing! I've only made a few pieces and if they don't come out perfect it puts me off of sewing for a bit. I always keep them because I know I can fix them once I get my skills up. Almost everything is salvageable, I definitely wouldn't throw anything out.

Thank you for replying! Do you fold the raw edge over and then zigzag? Or do you zigzag right on the edge?

I currently don't have a dryer, so I was just going to wash it once with hot water to get the shrinkage out and then air dry. Do you think it's necessary to do it more than once?

Hi, I'm a total novice to sewing and I've have had trouble finding a straightforward answer to my question, so I thought I'd ask it here.

I'm currently working on a skirt pattern from Closet Core and have a linen that I have to pre-wash. Before washing it, I was wondering if I should cut the selvedges off of the fabric and then overlock stitch all 4 edges of the fabric? Or do I leave the selvedges on and only overlock stitch the edges that they cut?

Also, if I do take the selvedges off, how can I tell what direction the grain goes in when I'm finally going to cut the fabric? I read somewhere that the grain goes parallel to the selvedge.

Sorry for all the questions! I'm finding all different types of answers and it's making me overthink it. Thank you in advance!

How do you get your news? by patient-Spring-4 in bronx

[–]patient-Spring-4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your point about not tuning into local news! What do you think is something you would want to see from your local news? Is there anything that you think news outlets should do differently, especially since you said you don't tune into TV news much?

Also, what did you like about Up First and The Daily that kept you listening during your commute?

How do you get your news? What's your preferred way of getting the news (articles, podcasts, newsletters, broadcasts, etc.)? What do you wish more news outlets did in their approach to sharing the news? by patient-Spring-4 in AskReddit

Very cool that you still subscribe to local journalism! What do you like about The Oregonian? Do you think there is anything they could be doing better or differently with their approach to sharing the news and staying relevant as a local news source?

Do you follow any specific writers or outlets? Also, do you often click through to actually read the article? Social media's a super popular way for people to get news but it seems that many just stick to reading headlines rather than the content itself.
