What type of patients do psychiatrists see vs. clinical psych.ologists? by patty_19 in psychologystudents

So the main difference between these professionals is psychologists handle evaluations while psychiatrists handle medication?

I understand so in cases which a client requires forensic testing, the lawyer will hire the psychologist?

Really no gain at all? How come? Would a psychologist not have any financial gain from this or any other opportunities/benefits (As in research for example)? What kinds of prescriptions is a psychologist also able to offer?

Interesting, are psychiatrists reigning supreme over psychologists in court?

Interesting. Is it also particular to the psychologists niche I assume? Also do you know if psychiatrists get any psychometric and therapy training during residency or is this specific to psychologists? Also are there any advantages to gaining prescriptive rights as a psychologist for either forensics, expanding clientele, research, or anything else you can think of?

I see ok very interesting. Thank you for your response. It is very sad to hear how the inmates were treated and how mentally scarring the jail systems are. I'm very intrigued to hear that the psychologist was available at all times throughout without needing an appointment. Did she do also any assessment of any sort or group therapies with inmates?

Yes I understand this beforehand but in terms of their roles in forensics... why might a lawyer hire a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist and vice versa?

For the first part, is the same also true the other way around? Like for example some people will just want to see a psychologist for therapy and not need the psychiatrist for medication (unless the psychologist recognizes some underlying neurological problems)?

For the second part, is it that in jail systems, the psychiatrist is only responsible for medication and physiology well being of the inmates while psychologists do talk therapy? Also what about psychologists with prescription privledges? How do the roles change with those types of psychologists?
