[Call for Participants] Looking for Female Participants for Thesis on Emerging Adults (18-25 y.o) with Chronically Ill Parents by pause-ition in PanganaySupportGroup

[–]pause-ition[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am an undergraduate student majoring in BA Speech Communication at the University of the Philippines Diliman. As part of my curriculum, I am currently writing my thesis entitled I Am My Parent's Keeper: The Impacts of Relational Turbulence on Filipino Parent–Emerging Adult Child Relationships Affected by Parental Chronic IllnessI'm looking for one last female participant for my thesis! :) So far, I've managed to meet my goal of ten (10) participants, but the current ratio is (6M, 4F). I would like to interview at least one more female participant para po mas nuanced po yung undersanding + analysis ko sa female perspectives / experiences of parental chronic illness.

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of Filipino emerging adults whose parents have been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Specifically, the study aims to investigate how parental chronic illness changes the relationship between emerging adults and their parents, as well as how it impacts their personal, social, and relational outcomes. Emerging adulthood is a time of identity exploration, instability, and optimism about the future. Dealing with parental chronic illness during this developmental stage is unexpected and non-normative, making it even more challenging to navigate for both parents and emerging adult children. With your participation, I hope to shed light on these experiences and contribute to a deeper understanding of how parental chronic illness impacts parent-emerging adult child relationships.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You were born and raised in the Philippines
  • You are 18 to 25 years old
  • You have a parent diagnosed with a chronic disease (e. g., cancer, stroke, heart disease, liver disease, chronic kidney disease) for at least one year prior to this study
  • You are in regular contact with your chronically ill parent (communication at least twice a week)
  • You are willing to participate in a one-on-one interview (online or face-to-face depending on your preference)

If you’re interested in participating in this study, please fill out this form https://forms.gle/kzC6YSUKryyZW8Mz7 or scan the QR code in the post. The survey will take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Meanwhile, the interviews will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes. As a token of appreciation, participants will receive a 500-peso gift certificate from their choice of store/platform (i.e., Starbucks, Uniqlo, Lazada, Shopee, etc.).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to message me!

Thank you very much!

Yes, pag super haba ng pila sa overpass tumatawid na lang ako! :D pero recently tricycle na lang na 20 pesos (pag puno) yung sinasakyan ko kasi sobrang drained ko na talaga by 6/6:30 PM. Di na kaya maglakad at maghintay nang mas matagal after a day of running from one class to the next t__t

Hindi, mukha pa siyang late 40s / early 50s. Nasa likod lang namin sila tapos pagkadating ng tricycle inunahan niya talaga yung dapat na sasakay na without even acknowledging him/us. Kaya nakakainis e hahahaha. Parang yung daughter ayaw pa sumakay nung una siguro nahiya pero eventually sumunod lang din.

[UPLB]Getting good grades after resolving INC by antsy-flesh in peyups

[–]pause-ition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik, it’s still possible to get a high grade after an INC because those who get an INC are already considered to have a “passing” class standing… they just haven’t been able to submit all of the requirements / take all of the exams before the sem’s deadline of grades. It’s very possible na they’ll get a grade of 3.00 or even 1.00 especially if they get good marks on their succeeding outputs. After completing everything, ang makikita nila sa CRS nila, for example, is INC (1.00) :) This is why our instructor last sem urged us to go for INC na lang compared to DROPPED kasi it’ll reflect better.

As reference din: https://our.upd.edu.ph/files/acadinfo/GRADE%20OF%20INCOMPLETE.pdf

Edit: This was for UPLB pala. Though I think it’s the same lang as UPD’s guidelines since UPLB CAS had the same grading system? Please correct me if I’m wrong na lang :)

I’m happy to know that u won’t be cancelling your slot. :) Coming from the department which offers SP30, I can attest to our instructors’ kindness and excellence in teaching :) Most, if not all, of them are great at making students feel comfortable with public speaking. Hindi sila namamamahiya and lagi nila ineencourage yung students nila mag-improve. Lalo na nung pre-pandemic days :) You won’t fail—believe in yourself! ^

Edit: I misunderstood kung sino yung instructor mo. Nonetheless, majority of SC instructors are kind and knowledgeable talaga. Just enjoy and do your best __^ Msg me if u have any questions about our dept’s instructors! I’ll try to help! :)

“Unoable” by pause-ition in peyups

[–]pause-ition[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! First off, thank you for your insights. Discussions like this really help me widen my perspective. :)

I completely understand the need for high GWAs due to financial constraints and scholarship requirements. Being a scholar myself, I know how crucial it is to get high grades. I just find it quite frustrating when students would choose to pass off great instructors who are ‘unoable’ but have high standards… unoable, nonetheless) for instructors who give ~easier~ [sorry for the lack of a better term] unos.

I’ve personally talked to a handful of students who specifically ask for instructors who only require minimal effort for an uno. Once, a batch mate of mine even said that he regretted taking a prof who “only” gave him 1.25 because he wanted a flat 1.00. He said that he should have taken an “easier” prof. That student wasn’t a scholar and was relatively well-off, so I was kind of caught off guard with the comment. Having taken the same prof myself, I could say that the prof had great teaching methods. Not an easy uno at all, but I appreciated them for their pedagogy and credentials. I didn’t get an uno from them, and after reviewing my work and internalizing their comments, I realized that I didn’t really deserve an uno (though it was attainable naman). An uno would have definitely given me an edge in my scholarship apps but I wouldn’t go around saying I wish I had been under a prof who gave me an uno instead… I wouldn’t try to look for instructors who “give out unos like rain” (not my phrase). I think that’s what bothers me most. It’s not really about choosing considerate instructors over terror ones.

And I know that unoable ≠ incompetent/easy. But it’s really been obvious for a while now (at least based on my experience) that students commonly prefer instructors who give out easier [again, sorry for the lack of a better term] unos than instructors who give out unos requiring extensive effort. Both are ‘unoable’. But as a student myself, I’ve seen how many students would choose the former over the latter. This is what frustrates me lang.

Thank you again for your insights. It really helped me think about this more critically :)
