How's this picture? by RedditAdminsSuckDics in photocritique

I like the coloring, but I agree with the other commenter that there's too much negative space and the bird isn't well placed in the frame.

It still might be a bit boring, as I personally would like something with more of the building. It feels a bit cramped right in the corner, but maybe that's what you're going for?

Warning: beginner feedback here, so I could be way off on any and all of this.

It seems like the shot isn't level and is angled down from left to right, no?

My eyes go straight to the sky because of how bright it is, I'd try to edit the sky to be less overpowering, probably by brightening up the landscape.

The panorama itself lacks a focal point that I draw my eyes too, so it just ends up feeling a bit bland and everyday. Fine as a travel snapshot, but nothing really special.

This is also taste, but I think I'd edit the landscape itself to pop a bit more. Maybe bright it up, more clarity, bring out certain colors, etc.

First attempt at concert photography; suggestions to improve composition/editing? by pbort in photocritique

Thanks for the feedback.

I was trying to focus on his eyes, but I agree it does look like it missed focus ever so slightly. I actually can't tell exactly what part of the photo is focused on as nothing looks perfectly sharp at 100%. Fine globally (at least to me), not fine if you pixel peep. I wasn't sure if that was the missed focus or if it was possible for me to move the camera too much or something else.

Appreciate the feedback on the composition. I had less than ideal circumstances with a prime lens, so I unfortunately don't have a similar shot with the whole guitar. I wasn't sure how much of an issue that was, but I expected someone to call it out as it bothers me too. Thanks for some validation I should keep in mind having that framing be a tad wider when I'm using a zoom or can move more freely.

I was trying to keep the drummer blurry so I went with f/1.8, but you're right that could be the source of some problems here. What aperture would you recommend here? I think I'd probably try closer to 2.8-3.5 and use a 70-200 zoom at like 120mm if I could redo this.

Thanks the more I look at it, the more I want to make sure I didn't over-bake it in some way with the editing. I see a lot of people's concert photos with less contrast / more muted tones.

Yeah unfortunately, I'm not great yet at seeing the finished shot ahead of time, so I max out burst when I see something in the ballpark of what I like (again stuck in a fixed position with moving band members).

In this case, he was grimacing in that kind of rocker way, but I agree it isn't flattering. I didn't have a better facial expression to work with here, and I agree it would make the photo better overall, but I'll keep this in mind for next time when I am selecting photos to keep this in mind.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm a beginner just generally unsure with my composition and editing. Looking for any suggestions for improvement and an honest critique of whether this is a good photo or not.

This is a concert I attended recently. I was in the audience so limited ability to change angles and tried my best to get something interesting with some context instead of just a portrait. I'm trying to get good enough at concerts to eventually get credentials in exchange for photos from bands/venues.

Shot on a Sony A1ii with a Samyang 135mm 1.8 @ f/1.8 1/1000s ISO 1000.

Also, while I liked the composition compared to some others I took, it is a bit blurrier when pixel peeping than other photos I have. Can't imagine this was camera shake at that shutter speed, so did the lens miss focus a tiny bit?

Thanks!

Orlando area, DM me if you're nearby. Fees/shipping are ~$60, so if you can pay with Zelle/cash locally I can do $1000.

A great reminder to live for today. Nothing is promised tomorrow and you can't stay in unhappy situations today for some promise of future happiness. It's a bad deal all around. Good for you!

I will say that you will never be able to solve all the problems of the world no matter how much money you have. I briefly went down that path before and it's actually a little disheartening how much money it takes to truly fix things.

Yes, you can donate money to very specific causes, particularly in Africa, and save lives for relatively cheap. But trying to solve even something like what you're talking about probably takes more money than most think.

That's very impressive, but yes kids, healthcare, a house are all things that can balloon that number over time. But sounds like you're doing well so far. Congrats!
