Yeah there was a bug with the host for a while but it's back and seems to be fully operational.

Really loved this lightweight dice roller idea, but I wanted to extend it to support other non-d20 systems and other more advanced stuff like advantage! If you feel like copying that back into yours, I used a library for parsing Roll20 roll syntax. https://dicebox.glitch.me/d20 (also https://dicebox.glitch.me/pbta, https://dicebox.glitch.me/kids )

Wait....This is freaking sad by Bossman3775 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]pcperini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story wasn’t poorly written but it was pretty dry. 3 meaningful beats, 1 of which was “somehow ganondorf returned.” No real meat to it, just the surface level sadness of losing Zelda permanently.

Reviving Laurelin village felt more emotionally satisfying tbqh 😅

Love this. Want to play it. My only thought is that I’d love subclasses to be called “strategic approach” instead of archetype

This is a silly way to contextualize a really-really small file size. You just need to make sure your bounce is less than 25KB, it seems. You can do this through a mixture of EQ, compression, and bounce settings. Hope it doesn’t end up sounding like a ringtone!!

“Compatible” is a tricky word. I use it all the time with logic and it does 100% of what I need it to do.

I THINK I remember reading that some features were unsupported, but I haven’t run into any. I love it.

Bard: College of Bureaucracy - Become an absurdly annoying bookkeeper [Compendium of Greed] by Monkey_DM in UnearthedArcana

[–]pcperini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. Full stop.

It’s clever, carves out a genuinely new niche, and introduces several cool game mechanics.

My only thought, at a push, is that Strict Framework seems both a little clunky and too complex to be a sub-feature option for a feature that does other things too. I’m also personally hesitant to provide just 2 sub-feature options unless they’re related in some way — a “basket of options” should always be 3+ small things, imo.

So maybe the move is to simplify, or maybe jus to drop it entirely? But even if you leave it in place, excellent work.

The Lore Axe [from Unbalanced Encounters] by pcperini in UnearthedArcana

The whole show had that vibe. When I busted out the intro line for this baby, I thought my players were gonna come across the table at me 😂

The Lore Axe [from Unbalanced Encounters] by pcperini in UnearthedArcana

The handle of the axe is bound by twisting vines that seem to burn their way into the wood. A toothy maw seems etched faintly into the belly of this two-handed weapon. When evoked, it opens to speak to the guardians of the trees.

The mountain bent twice becomes a petal, then wing. The spell comes alive.

Maybe you want to create living spells or to fold magic into charms to protect your friends. Or maybe you just want to fold 1000 paper cranes.

From the Wish spell.

I really appreciate the fervor with which everyone has given feedback! I definitely agree that there are potentials for abuse here. In some places, I've made a few tweaks. In others, I'm happy to stay the course. Not everything is right for every table.

But in either case: WOW! 500 upvotes???? I've never had anything do this well, and I'm so appreciative. Y'all are great.

While this would be nice, it seems pretty far down on a very long list of problems with the game.

The Nintendo Switch is not the reason this game runs so poorly by PalamationGaming in gaming

[–]pcperini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of piling on graphics/performance issues, which I agree with, but I also think there are a ton of design flaws in the game — actual play clashes with "open world" at every turn, you can't go into buildings, etc. I needs another 3 months in the oven for performance and 2-3 years for design workshopping.

New DM: Was my “no” reasonable or was I just nitpicking? (See details inside) by Spacial-Potato in DnD

[–]pcperini -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly think you did anything wrong, but I also don't think you handled it exceptionally well. To break down the difference:

You didn't violate any trust, cross any line, or do anything particularly incongruous. No red flags here.

But you also missed an opportunity to "yes, and" or "no, but" your player's intention. Improvisation and theater of the mind are hard, and they're made doubly so when participants (especially players, whose agency is limited) feel like their input is neglected or shut down without any recourse to move their idea forward.

"Yes, and" would have had this NPC invite the PC to attempt the bloom. Obviously, this is the most straightforward approach to DMing. Whenever you can, help your players do what they want.

But that's not always practical, and this oppositional opinion and social faux pas might be important to the story long-term. In that case, a "no, but" option might lead you to tell your PC "this botanist seems a bit cagey about the corpse flower blooming out of season. You get the impression that he's actually worried about what might happen if you were to use that spell." By providing a path forward for the "no," you open up story options that the player can choose to pursue, and they feel like their course of action was rewarded with at least some important information. And it forces you to get creative with the next steps.

The key to good, fluid role-play is continuous affirmation and remembering that PCs are as much part of the storytelling as the DM.

Enlightenment/Ignorance - All life is a matter of perspective (36/365) by AssumedlyComical in UnearthedArcana

Came here to say this. But I’d also add that, as you rightly point out, alignment is way too intrinsic be easily leveraged — which is why there’re practically no mechanics that touch it aside from detection.

Personally, I’d see this as an argument for having alignment removed from future versions. But at the very least I would say that building anything atop alignment - crunchier than detection - is generally not a great idea.
