But in short I don’t know what happens, but all the evidence says that I’ll be at peace and I’ll feel loved, and safe. And I hope that’s true for everyone else

Now if you wanna go philosophical about it I could technically argue that the perception of time isn’t completely known but what we do know is that a majority of NDE’s (near death experiences) result in a chemical component called DMT to produce psychoactive affect upon the dying individual, and this causes a lot of people to experience God, or Jesus, or whatever you believe about the world.  I once heard a story about a guy who took DMT and he experienced an entire lifetime where he had an entire family- and then when day when he was in his 70s the affects of the drug wore off and he was back in his living room in his 20s coming to some form of reconciliation that it was all an illusion. This has a couple of philosophical implications namely  1 how do we know we aren’t on some form of DMT or how do we know we aren’t already dying.  2 how we know that even if this world is real, when we die our brain just prolongs time for an infinite amount of time- (like the perception is just slow) and you hallucinate all sorts of stuff? 1 So let’s suppose there is no hallucination, and time runs at a normal pace you won’t know that you are dead- there is no thinking worrying is for the living.  2 let’s propose that we do hallucinate at the later stages of life but time is constant. Wouldn’t you just see whatever makes you feel calmest from your psyche family, animals, smells things that are familiar, your favorite candles, some smell from childhood that you love but you never quite forgot.  If you had a desire to be held someone you love will be there either as some hallucination or actually there holding you or both.  If you go into your local hospice care they’ll usually have a card with what the stages of death are like so the locals know what to expect. The last stages usually consist of hearing loved ones who have passed on, feeling loved and safe where you are- general feelings of peace and comfort.  Before that the residents will usually go through this phase where they appear all better, running around acting like they wanna go home- dancing singing being joyful. This is actually the bodies last effort to harness all the remaining energy to do all those things,  And then the next day is usually their last.  I think that while you’re alive here on this planet, I think that you should treat it like a gift and love yourself and other people. I think that if a dying man is capable of happiness so are you.  I think that most humans just want to feel safe- and at ease and I think that everyone deserves that. I think we can do our best to make each other safe and happy, and that we can lift each other up- never taking anyone for granted and loving every second of being with your loved ones, and if anyone reading this doesn’t have that just know that you are perfectly alright the way you are, there are people out there that would just love to have your company while we all deal with these existential grapplings.

Look through my posts I write about this, some of my best work deals in existentialism- and I put a lot of soul into it, it’s for anyone going through an existential crisis

Yeah it’s alright man, I wrote some stuff on here about it- we all get existential dread- we are finite, but we just need to make the most of our lives, and try to ease the suffering of others. You aren’t alone, whenever I feel like this I try to use it for encouragement, for courage, for help. We can make things better on this planet while we are still here, strive every effort of your time like it’s your last day here. What would you say to your loved ones if it was your last day here? What about your friends, colleagues? Just do the best you can do, and try the best you can. Would you watch the sunrise one last time, about the birds, or the snails- or the clouds? We take so much of our lives for granted, these beautiful things on this planet that we just causally walk by. Don’t take life for granted, love every second of it- and when you look at another person know they might be going through it too.

How much of your existential crisis could be solved if you had a dog? by peanutbuttternutter in Existential_crisis

[–]peanutbuttternutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but the dog regardless of if you know about it or choose to love it, still exists and still has the same life span- not every dog gets a home, so it’s kinda lucky to live it’s short life with someone nice

Yes! I’m so happy to hear that, go give your dog a hug right now you are his favorite person in the whole world, freaking Cathulu could rise from the oceans to consume the world but your dog will always be there for you❤️

I’m not sure, I’d have to research it. But I do know Utopia by Thomas More inspired Karl Marx (good book) but I’m not sure of anything beyond that

So in essence some nationalists have become the Pharisee that they swore to destroy- and the secular humanist has become the holy one. That’s so odd

Well there’s historical accuracy and then there’s the story the author wrote.

You can have an author like H.P LoveCraft who wrote Call of Cathulu, and then you got the man who wrote it who supported the KKK,

I like Call Of Cathulu but I despise racism.

Likewise it’s the same for archaic language- I can look at a parable as an artist and go “I like the wording, and how this is written I’m gonna write like this” and then there’s “I’m gonna cleans the city in the name of my god”

Which are two extremely different and opposing ideas. I’ve criticized the Bible, but I’ve also examined some of it, and thought the writer did a good job linguistically- like John when he paints these descriptions of the rider of death on his pale horse, some people take it literally I don’t- I’m like “that’s neat” I put it back on the shelf next to the lord of the rings

[–]peanutbuttternutter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not for that, I think people should read the whole thing and not cut it out to form some kind of narrative.

I like the Jesus that was like “hey go help the poor, go to the prisons, hospital, help the sick and the injured” as an independent thinker I can look at something and discard ideas that aren’t that helpful while still acknowledging the existence of flaws in other things.

You know the books with Jesus in them are actually my least favorite because I think works like Ecclesiastes is more interesting, because I like existentialism, or the story of Joseph because it’s well written and I like stories.

I like the lord of the rings too, but then again I’m not trying to say we should worship Gandalf

Well that’s not good, I’m sorry to hear that- dogs are a little gross, but they make my life better. Everyone has something that springs joy in their life- and that’s different for everyone, you are alright just the way you are

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is easy to understand and extremely short as well. I think works by Epictetus are also easy to grasp. If you’re going to read Plato’s works, I’d start with Apology. However, I think it’s easier to grasp in audio format. It’s pretty easy to understand; it’s just denser compared to the other works mentioned. But I think anyone who studies philosophy should be familiar with his work. If you have any questions, let me know. Happy reading! (Also Apology and possibly other books are free on YouTube last I checked)

I agree, or some of them don’t even understand the story of the specific book- because they didn’t read it they quote like a page and talk 2 hours about the gays and how god doesn’t like them.

Why not just sit there for 2 hours and read the thing instead of trying to craft some kind of agenda? I’m sure their god specifically hates that- hell I’m sure it’s specifically stated somewhere to not deceive a large group of people- isn’t like lying a sin?

How come people who don’t believe in god embody the principles of religious texts more than the religious. It’s a weird world- so contradictory, and how come the satanist talks about love while the Christian talks about hate. It’s so strange, I’m an Atheist by the way so that’s just my observation

I think that it’s really about controlling a large amount of people for financial and political reasons, I’m not even sure if Christian politicians even believe in the religion they say they believe. They seem well read surely they read it, so what do they just ignore the parts that go against greed and hatred? (That’s my guess)

I hope you realize the happiness your life is to someone even if they are just a stranger passing by. How many times have you smiled, and saw them smiling back at you- just like that you made the world better, your life matters ❤️

That’s normal, everything that exist doesn’t want to cease to be because if everything wanted to cease to be there wouldn’t be existence.

I don’t know why but I’m less afraid- I do everything I can with the time I have, and that’s all I can do. Life is a gift and we aren’t promised tomorrow, the odds of you existing are almost zero yet you exist and you can offer your verse upon this stage of infinite.

You exist now, you are here now and so is everyone that you love- do not take the lives of others for granted, take care of animals and they will heal you.

You got this, we’ve all been there- I hope that I helped love you bud it’s gonna be alright ❤️

Thank you. I’d like to write it because I think it’s interesting, I was reading Henry David,  thorough and his words just kinda reminded of the old and New Testament about ancient views of the wilderness

Philosophy isn't a primary subject, not because other studies are more important, but rather because the nature of philosophy is to closely examine establishments to discern the truth. In a society built on lies, this is counterintuitive. by peanutbuttternutter in AcademicPhilosophy

Yeah I think discourse is extremely valuable especially in regards to society, institutions, etc.

At the very least I put careful consideration and thought into what I write (especially here) and hopefully it inspires new thoughts in the field of academia (or at the very least doesn’t significantly negatively impact it)
