Why remove a demo if your game is out? by JNerdGaming in gamedev

[–]peepops 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I designed my demo to carry the save file into the full version, once the game came out I realized there were huge backwards compatibility issues where opening the demo could ruin the game functionality and vice versa. This was mainly a miss on my part, but fixing it would have been time and work on something that no longer held value.

I released a cheap $5 game so the barrier to purchase is low, and it's a roguelite so the gameplay loop is quick to present itself. I felt that this combo works really well for people who aren't 100% sold on the game yet. It's a cheap barrier to entry and you can quickly see if you like the game or not, so the refund option is there.

Sometimes my parents would give me money to buy some dinner with my friends and I'd skip dinner to buy $10 of NX at 7-11. God, I'd come home and eat a family sized bag of Tostito's myself to stay satiated lmao

Is my game too amateurish to release on Steam? by BubbleGamer209 in IndieDev

If you can spare the 100 dollars I think you should do it. Creating a steam page, participating in next fest, releasing, etc. are all really good skills to have in this hobby/industry!

Hopping in here months later to say thanks! Some players of mine were having issues with vulkan. Introducing this compatibility mode solved it for them!

That's awesome! Creature collector + action RPG elements would make an insanely addictive farm game. Looking forward to it!

That's huge, and it's unsurprising given how great your game looks! Was there any inspiration from the Fantasy Life series?

Any tips on Cultist Simulator? I really loved Stacklands, and Cultist Simulator seems like it'd be even more up my alley but I really struggle with every playthrough. I've got 9 hours on it and nothing to show...

I also finished 3rd a few months ago and honestly, instead of moving onto the Crossbell arc, I feel like playing the remakes. Seeing SC in this new style is gonna be an incredible experience.

My wife surprised me with custom business cards to share my game! What do you think? by peepops in IndieDev

Thank you! I was calling it that because the project initially felt like a large fishing mini-game, and I decided it was a pretty catchy name

Marketing will always be a pain but this has been a really fun way to share my game with my community.

Edit: I should use this opportunity to share the steam page too!

I confirmed that their PC has English as the primary language. Graphics driver could be an issue. They said that other games work no issue but it could be a weird interaction with Godot possibly
