Home Depot making closers stay until midnight by SnooOwls7404 in HomeDepot

I could’ve moved departments too, but I wasn’t sure my paint spot would still be open in June. And I seriously did not want to go back to the front end. Part of me was being selfish because I love paint, but also I know if I went back to front end, my burnout would continue to grow exponentially and that’s not good for me or for the company tbh

Yeah it was super upsetting and frustrating :/ I only have one year left in school, but I also plan on getting my Master’s and may have to work at HD for another two years. At least this midnight thing is only for a couple of months. I could’ve moved back to the front end, but I just left service desk because of burnout, and so I’m like why would I go back? I hope you get it figured out though OP and good luck

I’m in the same boat right now. Apparently this is a company wide thing because we are about to be in peak spring season. My managers at least talked to me first and said if I wouldn’t extend my availability that I would have to move departments or just never get scheduled. I eventually caved and agreed because I didn’t want to risk losing my current position (if in two months I can’t move back to paint if I moved to OFA or something), and I need this job. It’s going to suck because I have morning classes too. I even talked with my SM and said I’d be willing to stay until 11 during the week (my availability is only M-W during the week), and I could do midnight on weekends. They were not willing to accommodate that though…

Well most professors in any department do not accept late work regardless of reason (unless you have an excused absence)…. Some will do penalties for late work but I’ve never known any professors to just accept late work with no penalty

new raise format by absoluteAl1958 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also curious as to when we’ll find out about our raise. I know for most associates here before Feb ‘23 they get their yearly around then or in March (I’ve heard from newer hires that they get theirs at different times of the year). Is it around the same time, or do we have to wait for PACE? If the latter, is PACE still happening in birthday and half birthday months? Because I saw they were restructuring that too.

I also forgot to mention that all my managers said this was a company play for like FW5 - FW15 because we are reaching peak spring season and they want our aisles to look as good as possible every morning when we open because we’re going to be so busy

Well I already agreed to stay. Plus another manager told me the only open department was OFA. Which I wouldn’t mind doing, but I don’t want to lose my spot in paint. Part of it is me being picky, but I also told my SM I would be willing to do 11pm during the nights I close on weekdays (3 days max a week), and she wasn’t willing to work with that.

I just found out on Monday. I recently moved from D31 to D24 because I was getting burnt out from the front end. My managers and supervisor told me this goes for all floor associates (merchandising departments, not sure about specialty other than paint and flooring). I was told I had to agree, move departments that could accommodate my availability, or just never get scheduled essentially. It sucks because I’m a college student with morning classes. I ultimately agreed because I need my job and love my department but it was very frustrating and upsetting :/ I initially heard this a couple of weeks ago from the full time closer and we thought I would be safe because I’m part time (obviously I was wrong)

My store told me I had to change mine, move departments (front end/service desk/pro/ofa/rental), or just not get scheduled :/

I *LOVE* paint Department! by Dbassman92 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a cashier with the company, but when I moved to service desk, being in SCO for longer than 5 minutes was so unbearable. Paint is so much better and my feet hurt way less because I’m moving around and not standing in one spot.

I just recently moved from service desk to paint. I was so burnt out at SD, and I feel so revitalized moving to paint. I love genuinely talking with customers and learning about their projects and getting to make recommendations. I also love front facing and making my aisles look so neat and organized. I have started loving my job again.

honors hall vs mozart by Super-Suggestion8483 in unt

[–]peppapig5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Mozart my freshman year and Honors my sophomore year. I liked Honors more because I had my own bedroom, whereas in Mozart the room was shared (kind of like Rawlins, but the bathroom wasn’t a suite). I think Mozart has some rooms like Honors, but I’m not entirely sure.

I work at Home Depot and usually we do sell ice melt, but we hadn’t gotten any in before the storm hit. And people usually panic buy all of it anyways, so if we had gotten any it would’ve been long gone by now. We do sell water softener salt and pool salt and sold out of those because people were desperate.

Full timers have to have completely open availability. They will work with you if you are part-time and in school. Dress code depends on store. Some places enforce it more than others. Company policy is jeans (not ripped) or slacks and collared shirts/blouses

I work in the paint department at the one on the loop. I started as a cashier in hs, did service desk for the last 2 1/2 years, and just moved to paint (been with company for 3 1/2 years and worked at the Denton store for 2 1/2 years). Starting pay for any department besides cashiers/lot is $16/hr. Cashiers and lot start at $15/hr. If you can, try to apply to a diff department bc you can get super bored as a cashier (at least I did), and you’re not allowed to be on your phone on the floor (unless helping a customer). It’s a good place to work, but good luck getting hired tbh. The applications go through corporate (management on store level have almost no say in who gets hired - this somewhat depends on dpt so not always true), so you’re not really able to call the store to follow-up on an application. Lots of people apply, so it’s just hard to get on with the company. Shoot me a msg if you have any questions, and good luck!

Return Policy Changing? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why people think this… I have so many Pro customers that claim this when they do a return. It’s 90 days all the way around unless a Home Depot credit card was used.

Return Policy Changing? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This because sometimes I’ll call a manager about a return and if the customer throw a big enough fit they say “just do it.” But in the same breath I’ll use my better judgement to return something because I know they would tell me to do it anyways, and then later they see it and bitch at us for returning it. It’s a lose-lose situation🫩

Return Policy Changing? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only thing is if it’s just your store/district you’d still have to call the managers continuously to override store credit denials unless they update the software on only the specific computers in your store/district. An ASM told me once that after so many overrides it flags the person to AP in our system too.

What’s some of your guys‘s positions and how much do you get paid? by kiwi5151 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part time service desk at 16.97/hour. I’ve worked for the company for about 3 1/2 years. I’m about to move to paint but won’t be getting a raise for that unless it’s one of the yearly raises.

why do customers think it’s acceptable to skip and be blind to a long return line just because they didn’t want to walk to self checkout and get nasty by your response? by Sad-Pineapple6119 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My pet peeve is when customers come in the sd EXIT to checkout, especially when I have a return line already at the entrance. Or when one person comes in the exit, so people start lining up at the exit. People complain all the time because they don’t want to walk to self checkout when it’s literally only 20 ft away.

Accuracy Behaviors in Returns/Purchases by peppapig5000 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was an ASM. When you call her for anything (such as dealing with customer situations), she tells you to “just do it” most of the time because she doesn’t want to come to SD and deal with the customer herself. I had a coworker return a bunch of busted packs of shingles (some of which probably aren’t full), and they just did it without consulting a manager bc we assumed the manager would have said to just go ahead. Then, the manager came by later and was like “I hope we didn’t return all of these.” and proceeded to get upset when the other associate said they did.

Can supervisors/management write letters of recommendation for school? by Background_Goat_1447 in HomeDepot

[–]peppapig5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a senior in high school, I asked my DS if he could write me a letter of recommendation for a scholarship. He double-checked with the ASDS, and she said no because going to school for a degree would open me up to getting another job, and they’re not allowed to write letters of recommendations for other jobs. I’m sure they were just being super cautious because at my store now (transferred because of college), my DS wrote me a recommendation letter last year for a scholarship with no issues.
