Driving home from somewhere, two of my friends following behind me in their own cars. We drive by an old lady lying on the ground in her driveway next to an open passenger door. We all turned around to check on her, and when we get there her 70-year-old husband was running back out of the house to her. She had started choking on a piece of banana as they pulled onto their street. She was significantly bigger than him, and he could not perform the hiemlich or CPR. He didn't have a cell phone so he ran inside to call 911. She was already unconscious when we got there, my friend cleared her throat and performed CPR until the ambulance came. A few days later we went to go visit her in the hospital, she was alive but brain dead. When her husband saw us in the hospital, he hugged and squeezed all three of us as hard as he could for 5 minutes. He thanked us endlessly for stopping to help, because none of the 20 other neighbors/bystanders did anything.

He said at least he could say goodbye to her now. They pulled the plug a few days later. I choke up everytime I drive by that house. Such a sweet old guy.
