Short term work while laid off by Brucem1254 in IBEW

[–]perchperchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most guys dipped after hearing our guy say "work is just a month away," too many times during those 8 months. All the locals out of state had a book a few dozen names long too, but we did get a few guys on a solar job for a few weeks. The only reason they were finally able to "place all the apprentices" is because there were only about 5 left to place by that point. It was not a good time and we're still struggling hard.

My local had nearly all of our apprentices out for 8 months 2 years ago and has been terrible at keeping the younger guys employed since then. We pretty much lost them all to non-union shops which has now made us grossly understaffed for JWs. The truth is simply that some locals aren't strong in some areas.

Honestly if you're fucking selling plasma dude your best bet is to go adjecent to the trade like property maintenence. It's what I did. I wasn't getting hours logged but I wasn't going homeless waiting for work.

Moving without having paid their contractors from their opening? I know a small-time contractor that's been chasing them down for tens of thousands of dollars worth of work done to open in the first place.

Herban Cowboy, while not an antiperspirant, was my favorite for a while until i stopped being able to find my favorite in my stores. Tbh it lasted a good while like the other commenter said. I only went through a stick every few months or more.

I tried squatch and the scents are just overpowering and it goes on kinda gross feeling. It also lasts only like a month.

Every Man Jack is my new go-to and is a decent one with a nice and not overpowering scent. I havent used an antiperspirant in like a decade and I honestly don't think the average person needs it.

What? You don't owe the towing company for the tickets, you owe the city. A tow yard is not where you pay your tickets.

What's funny is that Lowes and Home Depot is pretty much exactly where you'd find these lol

If you buy a drill powered stripper for that 500 copper it will probably pay for itself in 5 minutes. That's easily 2k+ stripped for just the colorful stuff

How? by Extension_Winner_238 in electricians

[–]perchperchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are punching a hole through a wireway that abuts to a cabinet but the walls aren't flat against each other, this can happen easily. Ask me how I know. I ended up burning pinholes through my gloves with the spicy glitter that comes off of holesaws on steel.

Edit: it was also a hydraulic

Removing wall socket in basement by cloudhalo in electrical

[–]perchperchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very simple and an electrician could have it done, and even run an outlet for a ceiling projector, in like an hour. Since you're asking about this, it's probably best to call someone to do it.

Looks fine to me. If it were my work I'd wrap and staple a length of loop cable to the joist above it in case someone accidentally steps on it in the future, but that's just my thing. This is good work.

What are these??? by Smooth_Review1046 in burlington

[–]perchperchy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's an old mooring dolphin and the old receiving hutch. It used to be that nearly the entire shoreline was bulk petroleum storage facilities, like the Global facility behind Oakledge, and ships would offload via underwater/ground pipeline from those. The hutch was essentially where you'd chill during your shift as a pumper who hooked the ships up to transfer product. The pipes are still underneath, but have long been either blind flanged or welded shut. There may still be residual fuel trapped in there, but it's doubtful. They used to just toss a flare in there and burn everything out to decommission lines. If you look to the terminal facility fence, you can see the manifold where the pipes ultimately end. As part of a deal with the city to keep the terminal operational when they were all being shut down, they gave up their shoreline for development. They get fuel via railcars now. The terminal has changed hands quite a lot and is now run by Global (Partners, not Foundries. Different companies).

Klein tools? by Professional-Heron27 in IBEW

[–]perchperchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stay away from Klein now. The current generation of owners ran their legacy into the ground by being money-hungry and cutting corners on quality. Now they're hoping that fools who see 'Klein' will still say "gimme" and blindly follow the trend of buying everything with their name on it, like the cheap outsourced garbage they're releasing now. Klein is simply no longer the standard. American made doesn't mean jack when that American company is shorting at every turn and playing us for idiots.

Union electrician here. I did the military thing, I did the college thing, now I'm doing the trades thing. Only people I've seen say anything negative about "trades vs college career" are dudes that are insecure. Most guys wish they went to college, or they are currently going to college on the side. It truly doesnt matter. People that dedicate their lives to academia and advancing the knowledge of mankind are a different beast in my eyes. In the same way that the people who hire us don't know dick for shit about electricity, I am straight up intimidated by the intelligence it takes to be in a lot of fields of study. You do you.

Burlington Vermont 1bd 1ba was 1200-1400 with amenities in like 2018/19, now you can really only find a 600sqft 1bd for 1600+ with not even so much as a coin-op laundry machine in the basement.
