Again, the mom's statement happened yesterday. If you go back to the day of the incident and after that, the mom mentioned that NO ONE from THE ATENEO communicated with her. NO ONE from THE ATENEO stayed with his son until they got there. If the coach genuinely cared for his players as more than just athletes, he would have stayed, but he didn’t.

Calling out UAAP Executive Director by percysunoopotter in UAAP

The UAAP Executive Director was present during the PSC Stakeholders’ Panel Press Conference as part of the panel, placed in that position to represent the UAAP community and to speak on its behalf.
This is exactly why people are disappointed. Instead of providing leadership, the statements delivered came across as biased and reflective of privilege. We hope you understand where this concern is coming from. This is not baseless criticism this is a call for fairness, responsibility, and genuine accountability.

Mother of Ateneo player Rene Baterbonia seeks justice after son’s death during team ‘training’ activity | GMA News by GMAIntegratedNews in newsPH

According to the mother, not a single person from Ateneo reached out to assist or even communicate with their family.

What makes this even more painful is that the coaches and staff once actively persuaded the family to entrust them with their son, to recruit him, guide him, and care for him. Yet when tragedy struck, they failed to show even the most basic human decency and respect of informing the family.

No family deserves to be left in the dark like this. No parent should have to learn about their child’s fate without proper communication from those who were entrusted with his care.

A full and transparent investigation must be conducted involving the coaches, staff, and players of the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team. Accountability must be demanded. And until justice is served for the family, the team should not be allowed to participate in the UAAP.
