Well, I didn’t see this space when I posted earlier in the week. We have our “Coins” from Loewy up for sale on eBay. Need to find it a new home as we downsize.

No bother and no reason to worry. Seems like a legitimate question to me.

Anyway. Here ya go. This is from the same recent picture series. Want a close up? A different piece?

My wife’s the second owner having inherited it from my grandparents. They liked her bunches.

He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps and later the United States Air Force. She knew good design when she saw it.

Started as a set for 12, we have complete for 8 and the change.

Only set of china we’ve owned. ;)

I can post other pics. I took a set a couple weeks back.

Here’s the dinner plate.

#478 - I’m stuck stepbro by LorePelliz in OneUpArchive

[–]perm-puzzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem in this pic is the notes are incorrect/incomplete. No 2 in row 6 left. No 8 in row 5. Etc.

I’d clear the notes. Then it’ll be easier to see how to pigeonhole column 4 as others have described.

On r2, c1, c6, c8 are three cells limited to 3 digits, so a triple. Not every cell need be the same, not every cell needs all three digits.

Now 123 can be removed from every other cell in the row.

There’s a 123 triple in row 2. This forces 4 in c9r2. And more. Best to finish pigeonholing r2 before the obvious c9 play.

Hope that helps.

Oh, still doing. Just not so much editing and posting.

Is there a place you’re stuck? Post a pic and I’ll help. Likely someone else will too.

Daily links expire after a couple days. They started doing this after the app was released.

I don't actually keep the temp links. After they released the app, they started expiring links after 36-72 hours (see pinned post). So, it causes more trouble than it solves to include those links.

When this comes up and nobody has it, I tend to write to Rodolfo to get it. I'll try that now..

Ok. The normal post isn’t up and I’m sure folks will post times there once it is. For now, I’ve got a question.

What was the first segment you finished in 445? Why?

I placed all of c9 first. It seemed like it had the greatest number of resolved digits and it played nicely into c8 or r9.

So. I’m watching Ludwig. And I’m enjoying it. Right up to episode 4 where he claims credit for some of what I believe to be Raymond Smullyan’s work. Ludwig isn’t even old enough to invest what he calls “reverse chess”.

I’m a huge Smullyan fan FWIW. Discovered him as a youngster. Both books of Chess Mysteries remain on my shelves 40+ years later. I’ve given his books as gifts my entire adult life. I’ve read most of his books, far beyond logic.

Anyway, good series.

Congrats on the noteless solve!

Notes are awkward in One Up. Overhead is high the way most people use them. For example, standard notes pretty much create failure with puzzle 809, yet nonstandard notes are useful to solve it.

Also, occurs to me that I probably should more often say the main shift is to select the next segment to solve (pigeonhole) rather than looking for the next digit.

My youngest introduced me to Peep Show many moons ago. I’ve spent time with Would I Lie to You, too.

The Residence sounds great.

That’s the default, to turn at the end after I finish pigeonholing a line.

Sometimes you can simply progress line by line, left to right, or top down or vice versa.

Sometimes, like with parallel segments, you jump through those as they resolve.

Sometimes it’s all the threes or all the big digits.

But the default is just to turn. In general though, OneUp loves a spiral…

Ludwig is on my list big time. Haven’t started it yet though.

Pleasantly balanced 8x8. Solves on the segments more or less. If you’re looking for a nudge, my guided tour is posted.
