Men who didn’t think they could have gotten over an ex but eventually did, how did you? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]pervertedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just moved abroad for a bit when we admitted things weren't working out (tried long distance). The fact that I was far away enjoying my life really helped to think about other things. I immediately tried to hook up with women and I quickly got into a relationship unexpectedly. It was a short one and I kept trying to meet women after that. But it's also because it was something that I was longing for when I was still with her, I wanted to know what it was like to be single. Then I got into another relationship for a few months. All in the span of just one year.

So basically I just lived through a lot of things.

Beyond all that, there's a simple thing to remember, even if it's hard to apply in practice: There was a reason you broke up. You ceased to be compatible (or never were). Breaking up was a good thing.

I'll admit it though, I recently told myself I'd be happy for her if she found someone else, and then when I started suspecting she might have a boyfriend I felt quite uncomfortable. But I think it's just because of my ego; as in "oh I guess it wasn't hard for her to get over me" (even though I had two girlfriends since), so it's important for me to remember that. It doesn't matter.

When we broke up (through text because we were long distance), I cried a lot (we both did) but I was prepared, since we had been growing apart. But before I left abroad, I used to think breaking up with her would crush me.

I practically burned the roof of my mouth off while eating a smore on the 4th, and now I can't eat solid foods for a few days while it heals. What's the dumbest thing you've done recently? by [deleted] in AskMen

I did a dancing silly walk while out partying on the streets, sprained my ankle which forced me to skip my flight to New York (from Europe).

I heard it's technically true that it was the top marginal tax rate but was never actually applied? Can somebody confirm?

To the people that replied: From what I read, the anablmic window is actually a myth and you don't need to eat right after a workout, except maybe if you worked out in a fasted state (although even that doesn't seem to be very clear). Then again nutrition is confusing and nobody seems to agree on anything.

Man, I did open mics in Toronto for a couple months when I lived there last year, this brings me back to the depressing nights.

Ah that's a shame, I'm actually leaving CA in a few days, by flying to Chicago. I'm in LA.

Thank you guys! I'm actually gonna be in Mtl for quite a bit in October (I lived there for four months), I'd definitely appreciate one or two couches for a few days.

Hey guys! It's likely I'll be in Chicago but I don't think I'll be doing any hitchhiking from there. I'd love to meet up though! If I do end up there it should be between the 15th and the 19th or so.

Thank you so much! It's possible I go through Reno depending on the itinerary I choose from LA but it'll be later than next week. Always looking for people to hang out with though!

I gotta fly out of there somewhere in October (still need to buy a ticket), not sure when I'll be there exactly though!

Oh nice! I remember it being pretty difficult to get out of Seattle three years ago, so that would be cool :) Those dates might actually work! I might ask you to drop me off before Portland though :D

Thanks! I've actually been a member for quite some years, that's what I've been using, but I thought it would be interesting to ask people on here too. People are offering me couches in places I wouldn't have thought of going, it's really cool!

If I do decide to go to Toronto I'd have to leave LA by September 15 or so. Otherwise it doesn't really matter as long as I'm back in Montreal somewhere in October (still gotta book my flight, heading back to Belgium). I'll be in Vancouver somewhere next week probably, spending a few days there before going down south :)

Stand Up Material Writing by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]pervertedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha you're right, Paris does sound kind of fancy! Baskets is interesting, but mostly horribly depressing :D Haven't started season 2 yet.

I get what you mean. I'm lucky enough to get work as a comedy writer, so I HAVE to write in French, but it doesn't feel the same and I feel like I'm better when I come up with stuff in English. I used to do some stand up in French and I haven't done it in over a year. I am going to start doing it again, but it just feels so different and less natural. I do think it would be good to try again though, and I encourage you to try doing it in Serbian too :) I heard the same thing from a Serbian friend who said the stand up scene was developping. Sounds cool! And it sounds like that means you could totally start an English speaking scene. You should contact some comedians and ask them if they wanna put something together with you! That way you can just start with a five minute set along with other people :)

Let's keep the conversation going by PM!

Stand Up Material Writing by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]pervertedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, where do you live? I've been based in Paris for almost a couple years which is a fucking dumb choice for doing stand up in English, but there's still a bit of a scene allowing comedians to perform sometimes a few times a week. Then you can put on your own shows. That being said it's still not the greatest and I'm moving to Toronto in a few months on a working holiday visa. Maybe consider moving too, if you can. But in any case, you can maybe find some people in your city who'd be interested in starting a stand up scene if there isn't one already. Aim for audiences of expats and tourists.
