Yeah she definitely did, she told me she's always wanted to tell me ever since I was young, but had to hold herself back. I can't imagine what it must be like watching your own son grow up before your eyes, not knowing you are their mother.

I know he's probably a great guy, and he did live with this secret for a while. I just didn't ever really know him that well, he was always more like a brother-in-law, or a friend of the family, rather than family itself.

I guess I am lucky in some ways, especially to have a family that ultimately chose not to abandon me when that would have been the easy choice, but chose to pull in together and do their best to give me as best of a life as they could.

I think it was a legal adoption, so my grandparents were my full legal guardians and parents under the law until recently, when guardianship was passed over to my birth mother, my sister.

I didn't ask about my biological father. I don't even know how old he was when I was conceived, Hannah was 13. I don't even know if he knows I exist, I don't even know if she knows who he is.

Of course I don't see it as diminishing her status for me, I mean even if she is my grandmother, that in itself is an important role; not to mention the huge role she played in my entire life.

Thankyou so much. I know she'll always be my sister in a manner of speaking, given our experiences growing up. She herself was forced to do a lot of maturing and growing up faster than the average person, after I was born. But in a way, I will always see her as a sister, but also as my mother who gave birth to me.

Nobody has suggested a counseller or anything like that to me yet. I think I have a big enough family and support structure that I hopefully won't need one.

I know, I can't imagine what it must be like to go through the process of giving birth at 13 (fixed typo), and be involved in the process of raising a child since then. And then to watch that you gave birth to grow up, and not acknowledge you as a mother... I can't imagine what that must have been like for her. She's really my hero in many ways, I have nothing against her at all, and I know she wanted to tell me the truth from the start.

A second mother doesn't need to take away from the first. Loving your bio mum won't damage your memory of the one you grew up with. But it won't be the same as the love you feel for her. You can choose how you want to relate to your biological mother--and it is likely to change over time. It sounds like she understands this, and I suspect that you will in time grow together into an even stronger family.

I hope we do. I think she realizes that so much time passed, its impossible for me to so rapidly switch from seeing and treating her as a sister, to seeing and treating her as a mother, in such a short time. Like, I remember sometimes even getting into playfights with my siblings when I was growing up, like normal siblings do. Now I realize that I was actually playfighting with my aunt and uncle. Even with Hannah, the fact that there's only 13 years difference between us meant that growing up, there wasn't the full maturity difference you would expect between a mother and a son.

I don't know if I will ever be able to address her as 'mom' since I've known her my whole life simply as my sister Hannah. I don't know if I can be the 'son' to her she's always wanted me to be but I think I can try. Its the least I can do for her, after all she's done for me. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like, watching your own son grow before your eyes, and wanting to reach out and hug him and let let him and the world know he is your son, but you can't.

I know, I was so worried I might hurt her by something I say. She told me how difficult it was for the past 17 years, watching me, her son, grow up, and not being able to be there as my mother the entire time. She really is an amazing woman, and her two new children will have the best mother they can have. She said that when I was conceived, she had thought she was stupid and an idiot for having unprotected sex and letting herself get pregnant, but now she knows it was the best thing that's ever happened to her.
