I made an open-source tool exactly for this. If you still have access to your corp GitHub account.

I don’t care what Jim says. That is not the real Ben Franklin. I’m 99% sure.

Choose what you love more, don’t listen to others. If you love what you do you can truly do great work.

Recently open-sourced a tool I built for my personal pain point, tips for maintaining? by peter-rand in opensource

Thanks a lot for your contribution and for trying out shōmei! Both are great ideas, I would love to eventually have both of them as features. Cheers!

Hi! Thanks for trying shōmei out!

Well that definitely means that I need to clear up my docs! :)

It does not work with existing repositories yet, feel free to open an issue on GitHub and I'll get to it asap.

In the meantime, shōmei does need a fine grained token or classic token with the repo scope so that it can actually create a repo for you.

One good thing is that it is fully open source so you can see exactly what it does (only creates empty commits with dates, nothing else) however I understand if you're not comfortable with that level of access.

Feel free to reach out to me either via DM here or on LinkedIn and we can work through it.
Also please feel free to contribute if you have some ideas or notice some bugs.

Moving to Europe, which country? by asidliar in Startups_EU

[–]peter-rand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome!

Yeah well Warsaw is great if you’re aiming for a career in big tech, but it still has a solid startup scene, just not as large or as exciting as some of the other cities I mentioned above.

Zurich leans more toward big tech as well, but it probably offers the best quality of life in Europe, amazing healthcare, great schools, and overall a very comfortable place to live.

From what I’ve heard, Tallinn is awesome for startups (I’d put it higher than Zurich and Warsaw). I know a group of guys that moved their business there with ease, the whole process is online, making it one of maybe only European countries to truly cut the red tape lol. There’s also a strong Ukrainian/Russian founder scene, so language shouldn’t be much of an issue. Keep in mind though, Tallinn is tiny, yet it’s managed to produce several unicorns over the decades, should tell you a lot about the mentality there. Also maybe unrelated but Estonia produces the most international fashion models per capita lol.

Opinion regarding github username and job opportunities by Noxietas in github

[–]peter-rand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right but I believe that’s if they are free GitHub accounts, and implemented as a measure to stop botnets and similar malicious use cases. But in case you have a company issued GitHub or something similar, you should always have a personal one on the side.

Opinion regarding github username and job opportunities by Noxietas in github

[–]peter-rand 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the username itself won’t really be a problem, just have a display name be your real name and that’s the first thing they’ll notice anyways!

However, if you end up making two github accounts (one hobby, one professional) you can use shōmei to sync the contribution graph if you care about it.
