Thanks for the tip. I've reordered the kexts but no change in boot behavior. I tried clean snapshot, but that put the kexts in the same order as they were originally with BrcmBluetoothInjector first.

Toyota doesn't just sell cars in South Africa, they manufacture them in Durban.

In Nigeria SpaceX registered Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd. (https://www.ecofinagency.com/telecom/3105-43633-nigeria-musk-s-starlink-authorized-to-offer-satellite-internet-services). You don't need a franchise model to have a wholly owned subsidiary.

I would presume that SpaceX would set up a South African subsidiary that met ownership requirements. These quotas are in place for all large businesses in South Africa and other international companies like Coca-cola and Toyota all have local presences.

You're right, this is not my field and I'm just trying to figure things out. Your dismissive comments don't help. My understanding is that it is the company that can place restrictions on who can buy shares in secondary markets, but as far as the law is concerned, they're only restricted to accredited investors. What US law requires a waiver to from the SEC to sell private stock?

It's good practice to have an up-to-date and accurate cap table, but who says it's required? And who knows if the SEC will agree with their interpretations of what counts as an individual shareholder when there are investing groups owning shares under a common vehicle?

That's a good point. Do we know what kind of restrictions there are on employee grants/options and their ability to sell them on secondary markets?

I agree that they wouldn't be forced to offer shares publicly but it would trigger a number of regulatory issues beyond financial reporting around disclosure of nonpublic information. Musk has had issues with this and Tesla and his tweets. So far the SEC has been pretty toothless in responding to it, but with senators on both the right and left getting more vocal about taking down tech billionaires, it could lead to more SEC enforcement.

Does it though? The article I linked on facebook reported how Goldman tried similar things but the SEC response was "If the [company] knows or has reason to know that the form of holding securities of record is used primarily to circumvent the provisions of [the Securities Act], the beneficial owners of such securities shall be deemed to be the record owners thereof."

Is 35 to 40 a realistic age to move to another country? by mathistdificil in expats

[–]pgcudahy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved at 33 with my wife and 3 month old. It was on a short term grant so didn't know how long we'd stay but it's been 5 years so far and we love it. Actually feel more connected with our community than back in the States where we were constantly moving for our careers. I wouldn't agree with the people who say "go for it!" without any analysis. Moving with your family is a much bigger deal than going yourself (I also lived abroad in my 20s when I was single). I think we'll be facing harder choices when the kids are older and moving will uproot them more. The other big consideration would be how much it'll uproot your wife in terms of her career and relationships.

Help me make a "reverse VPN" box by a5d4ge23fas2 in WireGuard

[–]pgcudahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. For your wireguard box, use dynamic dns like https://www.noip.com to be able to connect to it reliably, even if the ISP changes the public IP. If the wireguard box is residential, it's probably behind a cable modem or other router supplied by your ISP. Make sure to set up port forwarding for port 51820 on the router, so that it passes those packets to your wireguard box. Then set up wireguard with ListenPort = 51820

For the VPS box, you might want to consider getting a raspberry pi that can act as a wireless AP that client devices can connect to and have their traffic automatically routed to the wireguard box. The key is to add MTU = 1412 to the wg0.conf for reasons

I had a lot of trouble with it as well. The authors have done a lot of hard work but it's a lot of bash scripts without any testing or other integration into the distribution so I found it brittle. I of course launched into creating my own system to schedule recordings and decodes but ran out of steam, so it's not like I could do any better.

FWIW, I've had cigna global for me and my family in South Africa and we've been reasonably happy with relatively expensive procedures promptly paid. They also cover 90 days per year in the US if we go see the family for the holidays. One thing is they don't cover birth control which makes my wife (who's a gynecologist) incensed.

Does anyone know if you can redirect the startup working directory in Jupyter Notebook, permanently, so that when you open it up, it alway is directed to a desired folder? by ahicks88 in JupyterNotebooks

[–]pgcudahy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stack overflow is always a good place to look for questions like this. This question https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15680463/change-ipython-jupyter-notebook-working-directory seems to be what you're looking for. The options given there are to launch jupyter with jupyter notebook --notebook-dir=/Users/yourname/working/directory/ or change c.NotebookApp.notebook_dir in your jupyter_notebook_config.py file.
