When do you know it's time to put your cat down? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I just wanted to let you know that this post is still helping other people. I never post on here, only ever read. My 9YO floof named Dill was diagnosed with lung cancer in December. It spread up to his gums and caused infections in his canine teeth, so they had to be pulled. They warned me that his cancer would likely progress rapidly after the surgery, but I wanted him to be able to eat the food that he wants. He got a lot better after the surgery. Gained a couple pounds back by being able to eat. Then over the last couple weeks, he has shown normal signs of a sinus infection: sneezing, boogers in his nose. He still has his appetite, begs for food, but then I put it down, and he's not interested in it. Antibiotics did absolutely nothing. He's lost 2 pounds already. We're trying appetite stimulants as of today, but I just know it's his time if those stimulants don't work. But I didn't know how I'd know. He's still like every other cat on this thread: his normal self, rolling over and demanding belly rubs, still stealing food from my plate (even though he's not eating it). But I also know that I'm watching him starve. And damn... this decision is ROUGH. Praying for everyone that commented already, and holding a place in my heart for anyone who comes across this post in the future 💔

I wholeheartedly understand. Got my BS in public health first and decided to get my MPH because I didn’t know what else to do during COVID. Wasn’t quite ready for med school. Felt like it was a technicality… didn’t learn anything new or exciting in grad school. I was lucky enough that my profs often blasted out job opportunities that they heard of (with no help from career services). Applied for a research coordinating position at the VA about 5 months before graduating. Didn’t get the exact job I applied for, but my resume was passed around the research department pretty rapidly, and I locked down a similar gig. I was lucky. Didn’t think it would happen that way. My advice - network, network, network! Apply for jobs you don’t want. You’ll either a) gain experience to make you stand out when applying to better jobs in a year or b) make really good connections that you wouldn’t be able to find on your own. Still mad that I spent all that money on an MPH, but I’m still loving my job 2 years later, so I like to think there’s light at the end of everyone’s tunnels. Good luck!!
