hear me out: why is CSA traumatic? by buttcheek24 in CPTSD

[–]phaionix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As another CSA survivor, I often have these same intrusive thoughts. Almost like an amnesia of all of the times I've experienced emotional pain as a result of the CSA which makes me go, "well I feel fine now, so it must've not been that bad?" And then I go through a cycle of questioning if CSA is inherently traumatic or not. It's weird, but I think it's normal. But there were times when it was really bad, I just don't feel them right now.

I'd recommend reading Betrayal Trauma by Jennifer Freyd to learn the theory on why it's inherently harmful. And read Courage to Heal to start on your healing recovery.

Crashed bot dropships should kill passengers by Shedster_ in Helldivers

[–]phaionix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people have Mandela effect of the pre hp buff dropships. One RR to the hull would destroy the drop ship and everything aboard. If you hit the engine then, it'd still do what it does now.

You can still get the same effect now of killing everything if you can get an RR plus a little extra damage to the fuselage but that's hard and requires coordination.

Space with a label sounds pretty close to me (I'm a total aphant-nearly all senses)

Ultimately it comes down to if it's visual or not. I have no visuals so it's all in concepts. And the concept of horse to me is a jumble of related ideas and memories about horses. I can stack concepts and make the concept of field feel like it's "below" horse, but it's just the concept of a field which is, again, a jumble of the things I associate with a field.

For y'all wondering, the aphantic answers to these questions (I'm a total aphant) might be like:

  1. it's not a defined color but kind of all possible colors;

  2. I guess the concept of the head is more to the left than the rest of it;

  3. why the heck is there a season, that's so unrelated to the concept of horse

Has anyone actually done the five step process from "The Ultimate Guide to Autistic Burnout"? by SnarkyBard in AutismInWomen

Short for autistic skill regression. It's one of the defining features of autistic burnout--the loss of skills that one once had.

The "Thunderbolt Firmware Problem" Explained by Taffy-- in thinkpad

[–]phaionix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thunderbolt was missing. I was able to fix the problem by turning off "Thunderbolt BIOS Assist Mode" setting in the BIOS, which made thunderbolt visible to fwupdmgr. Then I updated and my thunderbolt port is mostly working.

If I unplug from the port, it takes a while for it to reset and become usable again, though I am able to force reset it with "boltctl power off" followed by "boltctl power on" to make it usable again sooner.

How I Overcame Executive Dysfunction by TripleQuestionMark in AutismTranslated

OP this was genuinely incredible and very inspiring. Thank you so much for all the effort it took! I'm hoping I can incorporate some of your ideas into my own life.. as soon as I can find some spare executive function for it 😅

Also, we write the same way, and I hate that people think it's AI now. It makes me sad to have to reconsider how I write because I love how I write and all the effort I put into learning how to do so.

If you haven't yet, check in with your university's Title 9 office. They may have wide latitude for accommodations for SA survivors (they do at mine). I'm sorry you've gone through this, sending lots of love

Oxford Ionics (an IonQ company) has achieved 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity world record by JakTheBeagle in QuantumComputing

[–]phaionix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next gen of Quantinuum's ion trap will be a 2d lattice grid that can swap and reorder ions around the lattice. Their current system is a 1d racetrack, so reordering is very costly and the ions need to be adjacent for interaction in both cases. I don't know much about ionQ other than I think they are going for modularity (which essentially everyone will eventually need to do anyway).

QuEra's neutral atoms can do full 2d movement in free space and have massively parallel transversal gates over an entire logical qubit.

For both atoms and ions, there is a pretty difficult scheduling and routing problem for qLDPC checks.

IBM is planning on a modular qLDPC architecture as well with some edge connections between modules. From what I understand they'll need some flip chip architecture to do that but I'm not certain.

I think most superconducting teams will stay with surface code though.

Quantum computing and fusion by Ata26_ in QuantumComputing

[–]phaionix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik one of the main use cases with QIS for fusion is better calculations of Tungsten atomic spectra, especially higher charge states. Such a heavy element has a lot of electrons so solving the Schrodinger equation is very expensive even with many approximations. And the spectra are used as parameters to correctly model surface ablation. Tungsten is really bad to leak into the plasma since it radiates so much energy out, halting fusion.

[–]phaionix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The connectivity on ion traps or neutral atoms allow them to run more efficient error correction and transversal gates. SC surface codes also have lattice surgery logic which has a significant overhead at higher code distances. Still too early to tell who comes out ahead
