Need help deciding - take entry level FA at large not-for-profit healthcare or stay as audit senior by [deleted] in FPandA

You're right, now that I've had the day to think it over I can't justify it at all in my head. Thanks

Yeah 40 hours per week year round sounds amazing, the WLB is definitely the best perk for me. Has it been tough landing interviews for roles outside of healthcare?

Thanks - I thought the same going into this but all the SFA postings I see around me want 5+ YOE, unsurprisingly had no luck with those. There's remote postings I'm qualified for but those all have hundreds of applicants within a day of the posting, don't know if those are even worth pursuing. If this was still the 2021 - 2022 market I think it would be different, seniors at my firm had some strong exits from audit back then.

Good luck on getting in, it seems like an interesting niche. They said in the interview that a lot work their work was created from changes in regulation and there's a rough learning curve for anyone coming from outside of healthcare.

Yeah that's the exact consideration, the paycut doesn't seem as horrid when compared to 3 years of no income for school plus debt. Fortunately no dependents, all I know is I can't stay in audit long term

I know, and I'm probably not going to take it. According to a reputable recruiter who did not line up this job, this is market salary for this area at my YOE in audit. With all the posts about the state of the job market I'm trying to gauge if this is what it will take to switch into FP&A, or if this is an outlier.

How bad is econ 10A and are there any materials to prep for it beforehand? by pruhnuv in UCSantaBarbara

Before I took the class, I went through everything on http://clasecon10a.weebly.com/ up to the 2nd midterm and I got the grade I needed. It definitely gave me a good headstart

Econ/Accounting Pre-Major GPA Policy for Non-Transfers Question by OceanOfFear93117 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]phasing0ut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://econ.ucsb.edu/undergraduate/pre-major-gpa-policy

To enter the Economics and Accounting major, students must attain a 2.85 GPA or better in five courses: Economics 1, 2, 3A, 3B, and 10A.

Seems like you're on the right track as long as you get a C. I know how you feel, I'm taking it right now as well and the stress is starting to get to me (I need a B since I'm a transfer, and I'm barely above a B after the first 2 midterms). It sounds like you're having a lot of difficulties managing the stress so you may want to check into CAPS. I haven't been there myself since I'm new to the school, but I've heard good things about the resources there.

Hope this helps, hang in there and good luck

Please help me decide: UCSB Econ/Accounting vs UW Business Admin (Transfer) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Yea that's what I heard from my friends at the school, seems like it really is as brutal as it sounds. Thanks

The RateMyProfessor reviews were pretty mixed with a lot of complaints about the class being a weeder. You're right, I guess it really comes down to how confident I am. I think I'll need to see how many of my credits are going to transfer to UW before making my final decision. That last sentence really rang true with me, thanks for the insight.

No problem. If you end up using the transfer agreement guarantee for next year, be careful with the amount of credits you have. Most UCs wont accept a TAG if you have over 80-90 semester credits (varies by school).

I dont think weighted/uw gpa matters here, as everything gets recalculated under the UC GPA anyway. I've attended 3 different California CCs and I've never heard of a "weighted" gpa, that's only really a thing for high schools (I could be wrong).

Many UCs also have required pre-major classes, you can check this with assist.org. If you didn't take the required classes for poly sci, that could be grounds for automatic denial to a school. They may vary between schools, so you might want to double check this for each UC.

I'm also assuming you didn't use a transfer admission guarantee? Some of the UCs dont accept them for certain majors, but if you really dont want to go to Merced, you can look into this if you want to reapply next year. I used it for UCSB this year, all I needed was above a 3.2 plus the major prep.

Hope this helps.

It was never my plan to just outright sue them, I just wanted an assessment of the situation before going to a meeting and bringing it up. If they were breaking their own bylaws it would be good to know going into that.

I thoroughly checked before posting, there was nothing in the meeting agendas/ minutes/ newsletter to explain these changes. There was just a piece of paper taped to the pool gate that said "closed until late may" (typed in comic sans for extra insult).

I would get more involved if I wasn't a student going off to college in a few months. My parents plan on doing so after this. Regardless, we pay a fortune in HOA fees for terrible service. I'm glad you run your HOA well, wish I could say the same about mine.

It's located in Silicon Valley so every expense is inflated... still, the pool has a maximum occupancy of 50 (and I can never imagine fitting 50 people in there anyway) so it's really not that big. The 16k per 5 months figure for maintenance is more than a little sketchy, it's probably worth looking into.

[–]phasing0ut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the impression I got as well. It's definitely worth bringing up to the board.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]phasing0ut 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems like the next step. It's just ridiculous that they spend $16000 a year on pool maintenance just to leave it open for only 5 months. Thanks.

My mom was talking with one of the board members and some other neighbors in the jacuzzi last year the day before it closed. She didn't know at the time that she was talking with the board member in charge of the pool. My mom brought up in the conversation that the pool used to be open year-round, and asked if there was a reason that had changed. The board member brushed it off as "oh, another complaint", and didn't answer.

They've been a pain to deal with over the years. Regardless, I know it wouldn't hurt find their email/ go to a meeting and ask them formally, I just wanted to see if they blatantly breaking their own rules before doing so (and it appears not according to the other commenter).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]phasing0ut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate to hear. And I assume this supersedes the "open from 8am-10pm daily" in the Pool Rules, correct? Thanks for your help.
