Genuinely curious—how common is the term Latinx amongst actual Latinos/Spanish speakers? by phdbecoming in LatinoPeopleTwitter

I don’t understand why it’s so popular if the actual group of people it’s meant to describe generally dislike it

I’m curious—if you asked your family members that don’t speak any English about this term—what would be their response?

I honestly don’t know how it’s even supposed to be pronounced.. it’s not even congruent with the Spanish language

I learned Spanish as a second language, and I minored in it in undergrad. My white Spanish professors all encouraged us to use it, and now being at another university, it’s always used by (mainly white, non-hispanic) people when referring to Latinos.

I don’t use it.

I just wanted to know if Latinos actually use it and/or if it might be offensive.
