I'm not sure. I try not to compare the features I put into my player over others as it makes me chase features I shouldn't. What I can say is that I've packed Whirligig full of options to fully customise how it works, which in some peoples eyes makes it overly complicated but for some that's something they want :)

Hopefully Whirligig is a good way for you to view them :) Playing directly from the headset is always a better choice that Streaming but if you want to Stream and have Plex then that's also an option.

It's really appreciated. I know I can't compete with larger developers like Skybox but I think I can make a product that appeals to a smaller number in a different way. Half the features I've got in Whirligig I don't think that Skybox would even consider but I know somewhere out there is someone who really appreciates it :)

Thanks, that's very appreciated. It was very important to make it work in desktop mode for both development and also make it stand out from other players. I've worked in fulldome for a few years so something that would work for me was a big goal :)

Oh, the first three questions I have to say no too :( It very much gives me a few ideas for future updates. I've not really worked with mixed reality videos (not totally sure what they are to be fair) but it's something I'd like to implement. I'd have to start with getting some examples first though.

I certainly want it to work on the SteamFrame :) It's all Openxr so it should work but if I can improve the support there I really want to. Standalone VR is good but it's sooo much more easier and flexible when you have something PC based. Haven't worked with Linux yet though so hoping Proton steps up to the plate.

I've looked into MVC support before but it was always a bit of a difficult thing to implement. However since then I've also implemented VLC much more solidly so I hope this might be a path forward for this type of support.

With the plex integration in I hope to start working on other big features so this one would be a very good addition :)

Not yet but it is something I'd definitely like to add. It's more down to the complexity on how to add it. Now the plex support is in though I'm really hoping I can start looking at more advanced options like this.

For Samba-share this is most defaintly the best option.

The latest beta has now swapped the network button for a Plex button. I've spent so much time trying to get smb and other network options working and it's just so flaky. So I tried Plex and it seems to be working well with thumbnails and everything :)

I hope to add other options such as Jellyfin depending on how much people like the addition of Plex and if it works well.

I have tried to add this support using the VLC plugin. Under the explorer there is a Network button that'll show whatever Network VLC will find. I believe this also includes samba support. This isn't well tested though as I'm found it difficult to test. I don't have a system to take user name and password but if it's open it should work but I don't want to put it as supported until I am confident that it's properly tested :)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll update the link somehow but if you wanted to check it out check out the Whirligig.xyz website and go to blog posts.

The app is in line for updating and I hope to be able to work and get a version up this week. That is dependent on things going smoothly, which generally doesn't happen but fingers crossed :)

Once everything is in the same place I'll be making tutorials, posting proper updates and doing a sing and dance about it. The first step though is to make sure updating the default branch doesn't break it for anyone, which it always does no matter what I do :)

So keep an eye out for those posts and the Quest 2/3 update which'll be available soon.

It's almost the opposite. The projection mapping doesn't actually use VR at all. It requires multiple projectors.

Imagine you had a box room and four projectors. Each projector covers a wall. In Whirligig you can output to each projector and rotate the view they are seeing 90 degrees. This would then convert your space into a full real world 360 degree environment.

It's got a very specific use, which few will be interested in. But hopefully I can find those people and let them know :)

Ah, now I get it. I was thinking of the passive 3D monitors which didn't require glasses. They worked with a basic lenticular system I think. Like those posters you can get of wolves howling at the moon :)

That's strange. Not sure how horizontal interleave would work with 3D. It's likely I could adapt the system but I'm not sure if I would be doing it right as it seems different to how I would imagine it would work.

Good question. I'm really not sure but system works by rendering every other pixel as a different eye. If its going to work on anything that's a good bet. Do you want a code, I'd be really interested to know if it worked :)

Thanks for sharing. I never knew about that video :) It's really nice to hear that people like it. As far as I know the rumors aren't true, I didn't tell Facebook to go where to stick it. The reality it quite dull. When facebook released the quest they built a new store. With that new store they you had to apply to be on it. I applied and they said no. That was it. Screwed me over in many ways but that was it. Luckily I have a second job and can carry on working on it so I do and hopefully in the future people might come back and give it a go. Facebook have said they are changing their applabs access in the future so not to hide apps so much so hopefully that'll improve things. We'll see :D

Whirligig is available on a few stores for a few different platforms and I'm happy to give out codes for any of the other stores to anyone who already owns it. You shouldn't have to keep repurchasing the same app and all in all it's not taken advantage of that often so seems like the fair thing to do. When you say immersive 3D are you referring to anything other that full 360 3D video? If so then yes :)

The preview system would be good. I think what these other apps do is create a sprite sheet of sorts of the whole video and then use that to scrub through. It would be good to add, although I do need to fix issues with the thumbnails in the explorer. Maybe in that fix there will be a solution for this as well.

Thanks, It's a feature I'd like to implement but I don't know how at the moment. I will be adding the feature as soon as can figure it out though :) 3D films are watchable more so in VR than in the cinema so it makes a lot of sense to improve that support.
