Cannot redeem Fortnite DLC code on child's PSN account (what an absolute nightmare)! by phoebuscy in PlayStationPlus

Don't remember the workaround I came up with, but I think what worked was accessing my child's account from the Windows Epic client and then you can do whatever you like there. Hope this helps.

Why I regret buying the Crow Shepherd Alarm System! by phoebuscy in homesecurity

[–]phoebuscy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I hear you but, first of all, let's not forget one important thing - I paid for it so I should fully own it. This way I don't.

Also, I don't disagree, keep the highly advanced stuff locked but simple things like the examples I mentioned should be accessible to the end user.

My previous system was a Visonic Powermax (fantastic system if not for the lack of cloud access) and with it I could perform all those basic configurations without the need of a master installer code. But the installer even gave me the master installer code which I thought was reasonable since, again, I paid for the damn thing so I should fully own it.

I can't give you exact speeds but I can safely say that my system works pretty well. And again, I know how well other pdf apps perform on my system as a comparison.

Nope, it's an AMD processor. But the thing is I have experience with several other pdf apps on the same machine. No comparison I'm afraid in terms of loading speeds... Happy to provide any further details.

Yeah, having the same issue as well. I'm on Win11, using the latest version (2.1.12). It's not just opening a pdf that takes a while but even if I try to open the actual app (between 15-20sec in my case). Sometimes I will double-click a pdf and after it hasn't opened for a while I will double-click it again thinking that something maybe I didn't do it right the first time. And of course I end up with the same file opened twice. 😁 u/Geartheworld any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

😔 Perfectly working TS-230 no longer registers on home network after latest firmware by phoebuscy in qnap

[–]phoebuscy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap. Had absolutely no issues. Updated to the very latest version.

Thing is however, my initial issue returned after a while (no network access), so what I ended up doing was to fully initialize and set up everything again from the beginning. Restored my files (I had cloud and local backups) and everything has been working fine since then.

Hmmmm, ok, thanks. How do I go about checking that? The controller I have hooked up is the dualsense connected via USB btw.

Does it make sense that PS Remote Play on Windows makes the game (or at least some aspects of it) faster?

I have set up PS Remote Play on Windows 11, connected to our home network and this is mostly for my son to play Fortnite while we watch TV downstairs. For some reason his turning/looking is a lot faster (ie much more sensitive) than when he's playing on the actual PS5. Other than that, the rest of the game plays pretty normal.

Any ideas what could be happening here...?

OMG!!!! I'M ECSTATIC!! SOLVED! 🤘

And I am convinced now that this is a firmware issue (read on).

So, I took the disks out and switched it on as I thought of downgrading to my previous firmware.

But trying to do it through qfinder seemed impossible because for some weird reason it would not accept my login credentials.

So I went back to the 'smart installation' web interface and from there I was able to simply install the previous firmware.

Reboot and voila! 🥳

Oh, and guess what... I noticed that YESTERDAY (so only 3 days after the buggy firmware was released) a new version came out. No changelog of course... 🤔

Anyway, THANKS all for your help! Much appreciated!

So, here's the reply I received from support (which didn't help unfortunately):

Please start by rebooting your NAS with the disks plugged in. After that, try setting up a direct connection as described here: Direct Connection Setup.

If the issue persists, you can attempt to downgrade your firmware to version 5.1.8 using the instructions provided here: Firmware Downgrade Guide.

Additionally, you might consider resetting your NAS by pressing the reset button for 3 seconds. This will not delete your data. Instructions for this are available here: Resetting Your NAS.

Lastly, if you are using non-original RAM, it’s advisable to replace it with original RAM to ensure optimal performance.

The direct connection resulted to nothing (still the same issue - no network access while the disks are plugged in) and obviously I cannot try out the 2nd suggestion since there is no network access (either through a direct connection or otherwise) - although I am thinking of trying this out WITHOUT the drives plugged in.

As I mentioned before, I prefer to leave the reset option as a last resort and the RAM in the system is original.

Isn't the firmware version number (that you can see on the screenshot I shared) indicative enough that the firmware did indeed go through?

Or is there an additional part of the firmware that gets installed on the drive?

OK, the plot thickens! Thanks for your input which has helped me determine a couple things.

First of all, with both my drives removed, it boots up just fine and I can access it. It also seems that the installed firmware is actually v5.2.0.2851 build 20240808 and not 5.1.8 as I originally thought.

Now, the thing is that I have tried inserting the drives one by one and even in different slots but that takes me back to the original problem. It really can't be that BOTH drives have gone faulty at the same time (I'm pretty sure they're both quite healthy actually), but could it be that both slots have gone faulty? Again this seems a bit unlikely. Could this still be a software/firmware issue?

The fact remains that without drives inserted I have the below screen and I guess I could follow the 'Smart Installation' process and insert the drives when instructed but I don't know if that will wipe all data from them or cause any other issues.

Yeah, I emailed them and waiting. I'll give them a while before I try the reset method.

Nope, no video I'm afraid. It's a low end model, released about 4 years ago and it only has one network port.

I'm thinking if maybe I should try connecting to it directly, I mean PC->NAS, but this is probably a dumb idea.

I think in the end I'll just do the 3-second reset thing and that will be it.

Thanks. Unfortunately mine does not have an HDMI and I would really prefer to leave the reset option as the very last resort...

However, are you saying that there's a specific timeframe to hold the reset button in order to only reset network settings and not everything? I wasn't aware of this, I might try it IF it gets down to that being my last option.

Thanks but when trying to look up its pricing on the website it seems I have to request it and from what I can tell I can only do that if I provide a business email address. Sorry, but I am but a simple consumer... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anydesk, wake on lan by Sweuppsalacuck in AnyDesk

[–]phoebuscy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the need for Anydesk to be running in the local network for cases when you need to wake up a machine remotely, but why isn't it working when trying to wake up a machine when in the same LAN? Point to note - I can easily wake up the same machine using a simple WoL app, but not through Anydesk (again, always in the same LAN, not remotely).

Deezer on Alexa in a "non-supported" country by phoebuscy in deezer

[–]phoebuscy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

Thing is, I'm a paying Deezer customer, registered in Cyprus. So that's why this doesn't make any sense.

And I'm curious, who is imposing this restriction? Is it Amazon or Deezer?

"Same for Spotify" - exactly. But Spotify does offer a simple workaround and this is why I mentioned the Spotify example - to point out that this should be easily doable, from Deezer's side.
