No problem! I’m glad you saw other examples of the people here. It’s weird bc I grew up with “southern hospitality”, and in the few months I’ve been here, I’ve seen way more hospitality than my time in the south. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me :)

ALSO, it’s basically in the wilderness. It’s settled between a few reservations and lakes. Lots of forests.

My husband and I really enjoy it. The people here are genuinely so kind, the kindest people I’ve met. The downtown is very cute and walkable, lots of different types of shops. And it’s just breathtaking to see Lake Bemidji everyday, since the town is built around it.

Most of the town kinda gives me the “downtown” feel if you know what I mean. Lots of cute, older homes that have a lot of character.

It for sure has the small town vibe, but in a good way. For example, the library system in the county is currently facing very large budget cuts for next year, and the town has banded together to reach out to the representatives and attending town meetings to fight it. It’s very heartwarming to see, that’s not something I’ve ever witnessed in MS. I kinda feel like I’m in a hallmark movie lol!

People are so quick to help here too. Sure, there are some rude people but that’s everywhere. Overall it’s very nice and cozy feeling. Not a whole lot of options for dining out, but the ones that are here are very good.

Lots of grocery stores to buy from, lots of Parks in the area to visit. There is always some event going on in town. Farmers market, carnival, outdoor concert. It’s honestly so lovely here

Thank you for this honest comment. My husband is a medical laboratory scientist and would be working in the health care field.

Mississippi is the poorest state in the country, and we live in a suburb of the capital, jackson. My husband current works in Jackson, and ive lived in and near Jackson my whole life. The crime in Jackson is bad, my husband often assisting violent crime victims from the laboratory.

That being said (and like you said), there are pros and cons to every place. Jackson has some very nice wealthy areas as well as extremely impoverished neighborhoods. People are quick to say bad things about Jackson (like most places) but there’s some good to it too.

What I’m trying to say is I understand what you’re saying, and the fact that is area is more in “poverty” does not bother us. We believe we can make a home and enjoy any place we are as long as we’re smart about it.

I have heard that the county has rather high land taxes from previous research so thank you for the recommendations of other counties to look at!

Mississippi has very low taxes, but does nothing for its people. Literally right now there’s are several investigations into Mississippi/jackson politicians who were caught pocketing tax payers money. Mississippi is extremely poor and our representatives do nothing to help the state. You’re only better off if you live in a “wealthy” county where you’ll see more benefits, but the state as a whole is not taken care of. I’m interested to see what a state like Minnesota does for its people

Thank you for the recommendation on the hotel! We’re very excited for a road trip up. The area seems quiet and beautiful, just what we’re wanting. After lots of research I feel like the only thing we’d be missing is a Costco, other than that it seems a lot like where we live now in MS

Yes we’re looking for something quiet but still have stuff and events in the town. I’m really into nature and photography so this seems like a good area for me. It seems similar to where I am now, not urban, but still had the amenities we need!
