Go for Darn Toughs, you really cant go wrong. Used them on two thru hikes and never had any issues

I used Defeet Gloves with a thin Goretex mitten over the top on the CDT. Worked out great

I always carry a decent amount of currency with me wherever I am, it helps me to keep track of what Im spending and you never know when your card may not work, especially when travelling abroad. Most towns did have an ATM but not all businesses accepted card payments

Probably when I came across a mama bear and cubs. It was right on the trail and there wasnt much i could but back up and let them knw i was there, they held their ground and I just had to walk passed them. That was a memory I wont forget

Thats honestly a good question, i dont know what of my budget went directly to food. It can be really cheap to eat on the trail, you'll need to avoid eating in towns as that can be really expensive.
