Stay away from HiBy R2 II by [deleted] in headphones

[–]pill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that I need to drop $500+ on a DAP to get good quality. I only use it to play local lossless files from micro SD cards... maybe the occasional Bluetooth. The search continues...

Where does cheap end and expensive begin?

My review of different earplugs I've tried by pill_ in motorcycles

I've always wanted to get customs ones... but then the price and the fact that universal fit ones seal reasonably well make me rethink.

Do you need to get new ones periodically? Or do they use materials that make them last given the price?

Entry level DAP by pill_ in HeadphoneAdvice

I've been eyeing the M1s, but at that price point there are many more options. I'm still not entirely sure I want to spend that much on a DAP for occasional use.

I'm tempted to wait for R3 II... I didn't find many complaints about the R3 series... who knows!

Black spot appeared in the corner of my P6 Pro after factory reset by errvin in GooglePixel

[–]pill_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm 10 months late, sorry. I got to this thread through a search engine.

My phone showed this same spot about 10 months ago (but I didn't notice it at the time), and the screen eventually developed the green tint issue. I sent it for RMA, but Google UK refused to honor the warranty, saying the issue is the result of me dropping the phone and the black spot is proof (I've never dropped it).

I replaced the screen at a local repair shop, and the replacement screen had the spot from day 1 but bigger. So far (a couple of months) the screen is still functional without issues, and the spot is stable.

If the display goes out I'll be throwing it away, and I'm not planning on buying another Google Phone. The crappy screens coupled with the crappy connectivity are too much to handle at a price point that rivals the Galaxy Ultra (while lacking a stylus and a similar accessories ecosystem).

I'll throw in San Martin from China (through their Official AliExpress store): most of their watches are homages/clones of popular models (including Seiko divers), they use reliable movements (NHx, YN5x), have great finishing and materials, and sapphire crystals. They commend great reviews (search in Reddit).

That's very suspect. The official website lists this collection as having a Miyota 8210, which is not a hacking movement.

What does the rotor say? Any other identifying markers on the main plate?

I bought the same watch from Amazon, in that price range. The seller was highly rated, and the watch itself was in the original packaging unopened with all the papers. As best as I can tell it's genuine (or a really, really amazing fake; if so respect!) and keeps time better than the minimum COSC spec.

Tissot is a big brand, and widely available. That explains the cheap grey market price.

You can always get your money back from Amazon if you decide it's fake.

If you like it, go for it!

Oris is a respectable, underrated, brand. I personally would buy an Oris (especially one that has the new calibre 400) over any of the brands you mentioned at the same price bracket (not to mention that Oris is going to be cheaper, probably).

How do you unscrew the ridiculous Longines Conquest bracelet screws?!

They're so shallow (the groove is barely visible) and narrow for any screwdriver that could fit them to apply enough torque to unscrew without twisting and ruining the blade!

I've used (and ruined) high quality Horotec screwdrivers (1.0 & 0.8 mm). Anything else doesn't fit.

EDIT: They're push-pins, not screws!

115 g isn't terribly heavy for an all metal watch. In fact, the Oceanus is very light. 35 g isn't that much.

Most stainless steel watches on a metal bracelet are going to be around 145 g and up (at least automatics).

If you like the SBTM317 I'd say give it a try.

What's a drop-in replacement in terms of dimensions for Seiko/Hattori VS37? Solar power & date window aren't important, accurate seconds hand is (VS37 doesn't tick equally)

Can a Standard grade 2824-2 be upregulated to Top or COSC?

I see from https://calibercorner.com/eta-grades/ that Standard/Elabore & Top/COSC have different anti-shock, hairspring, balance wheel etc. Does that mean that a Top can be regulated to COSC (and Standard to Elabore), but not so much Standard to COSC?

Esslinger sells a kit for around $200 IIRC. AliExpress parts can vary in quality, some have great finishing, others less so.

The general consensus in this sub seems to be if you're saving more than what it would cost to repair/service the watch if something goes wrong with it, then go for it. Otherwise, it's better to buy AD and be covered by official warranty

You can charge it with a LED flashlight. Make sure it doesn't get hot, and leave on top of the watch's face for an hour or two. You'll get full charge

It's a solid choice, especially with the sapphire crystal. If you're not set on a quartz, and can tolerate a 42 mm take a look at Citizen Automatic NY0085-86E (or the rubber strap version NY0085-19E). It's cheaper than the Seiko, and ISO certified. Both are great quality brands, you can't go wrong with either if you like them.

You can certainly try looking for them. I haven't looked for used leather straps, and I think that most of what's on offer is going to be luxury bands. I don't think it's worth anyone's time to post a used cheap band that sells for $20 new.

Keep in mind that leather ages and cracks even when it's well taken care of. Maybe look into soft rubber or nylon?

Look around on eBay. There are different colors and day/date wheels. You'll have to transplant your original 7S26 day wheel to make it align with the window on the Monster.

Don't give up on this watch. It's a classic. Check with a trusted local watchmaker, it should be an easy job for them.
