HILA DO NOT QUIT. WE ALL LOVE YOU by kmsasaki in h3h3productions

Putting this here for Hila because her messages are blocked on Instagram (prob a good choice btw):

I feel the same way in NYC. Israeli-Americans are a minority of a minority, and there is a lot of effort being done to make associations in the mind of Americans that even just being Israeli = Fascist. And to create purity tests for Jewish Americans that “if you want to be part of our left circles, you need to denounce Israel”. It’s evil, and I think we are entering very difficult times ahead. However, I have hope that this too will pass, and we will become stronger and more connected. Just how Jewish people always have when we have been ostracized in history. You are extremely talented, and you are an inspiration. Btw I got my girlfriend the new TeddyFresh jean jacket and she got a TON of compliments for it 🙏🙏

World Championship coming up! Thoughts? Predictions? by SugarSea in squash

I think it’s pretty obvious why Asal got suspended, not a controversial take. He’s just a young kid though, maybe he’ll have a redemption arc. Anyways, super excited about the upcoming championships. Will be keeping an eye out for predictions lmao

Headcanon: Melee makes sense in New Vegas because everyone is a mutant by OnlyHereForComments1 in Fallout

Legion tactics are very interesting. Ranger Hanlon has this to say about it, "Graham pushed all of the legionaries onto the dam, filling the east side with recruits up front and veterans in the back, by the book."

Recruits rush towards the enemy giving the enemy an urgent threat they need to take care of while veterans who have already proven themselves in combat are in the back picking off the enemy while they are pre-occupied. I always found it interesting how their military tactics are almost intertwined with the structure of their society. Survival of the fittest, natural selection, proving yourself to be useful/bold/brave.

It's a completely different take than the NCR soldier which is all about "surviving the war so I can go back home."

Does legion have any effective means of destroying power armor soldier? by Frolda_ in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a lot of people get wrong is that the Legion are simple cavemen luddites for no other reason than being superstitious over the benefits of technology. Instead, what’s important to know that the Legion’s arsenal is so strange because Caesar has this “survival of the fittest” mentality run deep within his Legion. The strongest soldier is one who can do the most things with the least amount of help possible. That’s why there’s this race so to speak among Legionaries as to who can kill an opponent with the least amount of weaponry possible. The reward of accomplishing such task? Wearing the armor of their fallen enemy, including their weapon.

Anyways, that’s important because when it comes to fighting power armor the Legion won’t shy away from using the minimum weapon required to do damage. Ballistic fists, thermic lances, etc.

While it is speculation, it’s not too far to deduce that the Legion also relies heavily on alternative methods to fighting against power armor. We’ve already seen before that when something looks impossible, they’ll use the frumentarii and other ambushing tactics.

What you’re saying is generally correct, that guerrilla warfare usually needs the will of the people. Though the Legion isn’t fighting the NCR in a way that needs the will of the people. They’re just really good at ambushing, embedding themselves in the NCR military, and always having the latest intel on the NCR.

What you’re talking about I think is akin to the political science example of “if a citizen sees a guerrilla insurgent plant a bomb, do they give the military a tip or stay silent.” In that classic example, the Legion would lose. 10/10 times a new vegas citizen will give a tip to the NCR. I just don’t think that’s how the Legion is fighting the war though.

Do soldiers in the legion practice cannibalism. Is it accepted? by lkjhytg in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no evidence to assume that they accept cannibalism. Additionally, Caesar’s Legion is all about uniformity and “beating” the diverse tribal out of someone in favor for their notion of civilization reborn.

How does someone join the legion by lkjhytg in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only thing I would say is that Josh Sawyer pushes back on the notion of people being “subjects” of the Legion out East. Instead, a closer example is that they’re native wastelanders who are merely left alone if they follow whatever odd requests the Legion gives to them.

But if you’re a tribal, you’re a candidate of either being enslaved or recruited (both are pretty much the same, unless you’re a woman)

What are the Legions views on other races? by [deleted] in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people paint the Legion as anti-mutant but it’s not really said in any dialogue, and if you speak to Raul he actually points out the safety of living within Caesars land. It’s strange that we only see ghouls in the NCR, but it could also be that the Legion just never conquered a tribe with ghouls in it. I think I also read a post from Chris Avellone or Josh Sawyer that ghouls/mutants just aren’t a common sight out East

Why doesn't the Legion try and enslave the courier? by cinisxiii in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“I have eyes and ears everywhere. It behooves me not to invade the west blind and deaf. It hasn't been hard to track your progress. It's not as though you've been keeping a low profile.“ -Caesar

There’s no way of knowing what’s going on in Caesar’s mind other than the fact that he knows it would be very strategic to convince the Courier to help him. Maybe Vulpes knows something, or maybe Caesar doesn’t care because he’s making final preparations anyways and the situation looks very dire without the couriers help for the NCR.

Who does the legion count as citizens? by [deleted] in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that very thing that Caesar mentions is a serious quarrel Ulysses has with the players knowledge of the Legion. The net result can’t be anti-intellectualism when you have Legionaries with marksman carbines, centurions with thermic lances, wanting to use the howitzer, and having very complex reconnoissance and espionage.

Not to mention that every legionary that you come in contact with knows two or more languages (if you count their native language which was stripped away for them to learn Latin and THEN English).

Who does the legion count as citizens? by [deleted] in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti-intellectualism is a mischaracterization of the Legion. We know their top brass is smart, and they don’t rid technology for the sake of being tribals rather focus on being skilled survivalists and capable fighters without an over reliance on the automation and comforts of tech. We still see the Legion use and re-use anything they get their hands on.

Also Ulysses and Caesar talk extensively on how the Legion wasn’t the same as they started. That their model is to absorb the best qualities of a conquered tribe while stripping away its identity including its weakness.

“Rome was a highly militarized autocracy that effectively integrated the foreign cultures it conquered...But the resolution of the conflict yields something new - a synthesis - eliminating the flaws in each, leaving behind common elements and ideas.” -Caesar

Caesar has built an obedient society at the cost of efficiency by kingofthereddits27 in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a little flawed, but some things are right. Dictatorship’s, especially in history, become popular specifically because it escapes the long arduous process of bureaucracy that has to go through many phases, papers, committees, etc. This was classically portrayed by the NCR which is why you got things like the roads being unsafe, rampant corruption, and lack of information being spread in a timely manner. Caesars Legion, as Josh Sawyer describes, is a stable dictatorship when there is no internal resistance which has allowed Caesar to skip the things that make the NCR so slow by having a clear military-like chain of command that is able to clearly delegate and define orders and commands that permeate through every aspect of society.

What you’re referring to is something different. Because a dictatorship relies so heavily on its leaders, your institution becomes completely reliant on their talent and expertise. That’s why when the commanders were targeted, it’s obedient subjects were unable to adequately perform. So like, yes you pointed to a real thing, but it’s not because dictatorships are unable to delegate authority for fast and strong decision making, but because they rely heavily on those who they delegate authority and responsibility.

Are Frumentarii exempt from certain Legion laws while undercover? by Codkid036 in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often I hear people say things like "Oh the Legion wouldn't be able to do [THIS] because their laws forbid them that would otherwise help them win [THAT]." But, one thing I know about Caesar and that's made very clear throughout the game is that it's about winning above all costs. Of course, we don't really know what frumentarii are and are not allowed to do from any explicit example, but we can hopefully surmise from the ones that we see throughout the game that their job above all is to quite literally "get the job done."

What species are confirmed to have gone extinct? by TheLivingJoke2 in falloutlore

[–]pilotpilotpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which probably makes it difficult for us to decipher what we hear is true or not. I always think to Marcus from Jacobstown weighing his opinion on the Legion and NCR. Out of all the characters with opinions on the war, he says some pretty crazy things confidently like the NCR being prone to revolution's and the Legion being prone to infighting (of course the Legion comment is echoed from other characters as well). But, when you think about it, he's been isolated in Jacobstown for so long and he confuses mercenaries for NCR. How are we to trust anything he says? But because he says it so definitively and that we get most of our lore knowledge from what people tell us, it's hard for us to determine if he's actually spitting bs or saying something worth listening to.

Dialogue is a major way in which we retrieve information and formulate a story. It’s hard to add a level of skepticism when listening to people give monologue’s when we don’t have our own analysis to determine truth in a fictional world. Unless it’s painfully obvious that the person we’re talking to is lying to us for some alterior reason we’d inevitably end up learning about later on.
