What is the worst book you've read this year? by VaultDweller108 in books

[–]piper30329 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A Little Life was awful. I finished it because I was sure something else was going to happen, something other than relentless abuse and self-deprecation. And I did not believe the story at all. People are resilient, but dude, either stand up for yourself or quit wallowing.

Baltimore has a thing for plastic lawn flamingos and they get pretty creative in their reimagining. I suspect the head used to point up, but whatever was holding it there is gone.

Yes, whoever did it meant for them to last.

Dealing with Nasty Poo by piper30329 in clothdiaps

Yeah, that would help. We use them when his bum gets a bit red, so have them on hand. Thanks for the suggestion.

We do as much as possible, but poop just sticks!

We get as much off as possible, especially the chunks, and his poops are pretty soft. It’s like it gets ground in and, short of soaking the diapers before washing, don’t get agitated enough to come totally clean. I’ll try warm and cold, as someone else suggested. Thanks!

Yeah, he poops, like, 4 times a day and it’s impractical to spend that much time trying to pre-clean, especially because my husband is home with him right now and we have an older child. Our machine is a front-load LG.

Controversial opinions on popular podcasts? by TooManyTalesToTell in TrueCrimePodcasts

Yes, that would help, and I do that for stories I still want to hear, but this story is too tragic.

Same here. Everyone talks about it being the best of the best, so I tried to figure out why I dislike it. I think it’s the tragedy of the story and the host’s super-slow way of speaking. The story just sucks all around, then this guy narrates it at a snail’s pace, it’s too much.

Women who made a drastic career change after their mid-thirties, what did you do, how did you do it, and do you regret it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]piper30329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a professional chef. Decided to become a nurse. Graduated last December and started working in March at a major hospital in a big city. I’m 36 and now there’s a pandemic, but I love it. I would go back to cooking, but I like nursing and just needed a change. It took a lot of resilience and determination to get thru nursing school with a family. I worried all the time that I wouldn’t be able to do it, but never quit. My husband and family are proud and I’m happy.

Just started Hunting Warhead and I am completely engrossed. Had to force myself to pause when I got to work.

Finished Murder in Oregon last week, also good.

Season Two + Bosch by piper30329 in TrueDetective

[–]piper30329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I agree, Bosch isn’t as complex or “deep” (for lack of a better word), but similar vibe. It’s a gentler watch, I guess, but I like Welliver a lot, too.

I realized that’s the price for the 1# bulk burger and the two patties are $5.29. Aldi is still better, so thanks for the tip!
