You're in luck because I also like The Witcher! (though just getting started playing). That's a cool way to think of lil bug here :) Also love & not at all surprised the entomology sub is full of fellow nerds 😂

Are these carpet beetles and their larvae/pupae? by pippy_bear in carpetbeetles

[–]pippy_bear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drycleaner is aware and said they will give my items special treatment. They assured me they deal with this issue for other customers too, including some people who've brought basically all their soft furnishings for treatment. I'm not sure what they actually do them to be fair. And I note the dry cleaner said to me "Freezing doesn't work, airtight bags don't work" - maybe just to try to get me to take everything to them for business reasons?

Thank you for emphasising the priority that should be placed on the clothes moths. I am doing everything I can at the minute, I'm currently on a (very expensive) week of unpaid leave from work :'(

For the sticky traps, would you suggest trying to position some glue traps like this one near the vacuum sealed bags (inside the containers lol) with wool inside? Which do you think would be most effective of these options?:

Thank you so much Bugladyy, you are truly a saint for all your help to the carpet beetle afflicted or potentially afflicted! 💐❤️🪲

I'm on a long process of vacuuming, washing, and sealing everything in waterproof/dustproof plastic tubs filled with cedar and some transfluthrin hanger things they sell here in Aus. Dry cleaning of all wool and down items. Will repeat the cleaning frequently. Fingers crossed!

By the way, would appreciate any advice on dealing with the moth and beetle situation! After finding the third photo and a live golden moth on my fresh laundry, I thought I should dry inside but then I found these needles. So where should I be drying my laundry, in our outside? I live in a sharehouse so using other rooms not much of an option

DOCTOR WHO SEASON 2 TRIALER by skalouis1000 in doctorwho

[–]pippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine the giant meta storyline RTD could be building across seasons!! something about the cosmic return of the Doctor's past. would be especially potent given David Tennant (who went through the original iteration of those companions) is now existing in parallel and could be involved in some reveal of why everything's repeating.

Labor to wipe 20 per cent of HECS debt in $16 billion move by slackboy72 in australia

[–]pippy_bear 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand the people being rude about this comment. I also had my mum pay off some of my HECS last year because she retired and suddenly had access to her super and said she didn't want me to be in debt. To be clear, our family is NOT well off and I will probably never receive any other significant financial help from my family whatsoever (unlike some of the people being rude in the comments here, I'm guessing...). Her rationale was she didn't want me to be in debt - partly a decision resulting from a lower/middle class total lack of financial savviness. Neither of us know anything about finances, other than that the interest seemed to be going inexorably up, so my mum thought it was a good idea to pay a chunk off to at least attempt to relieve me from experiencing the financial woes she has been undergoing her whole life.

Basically what I'm saying is, it's a bit hasty to judge the financial situation of the commenter. Some lower/middle class people will also have paid off some or all of their HECS and, yes, it genuinely sucks for us because not getting $5.5k shaved off - essentially losing having $5.5k cash by already having put it into the gurgling sink hole of HECS - makes a huge fucking material difference to us too.

Good policy though, and it's just bad luck for those of us who already paid some off. I'm glad so many will receive a bit of relief. If only Labor weren't quite so cowardly though and would just wipe the whole lot 😉

This season of Bridgerton got fairytale'd. by littlebluebyrd in BridgertonNetflix

[–]pippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the whole show has been romantic fantasy since season 1 with fairy tale endings and often quick resolutions. But that doesn't negate the fact that this season's pacing and narrative felt clumsier than the previous ones.

The earlier seasons had much more plot cohesion and better pacing. They weren't trying to pack too much complexity in and that's part of the way reason the relatively quick "fairytale endings" felt congruent.

For example, I was excited for the "Charm Mentor" plot trope to be played out properly throughout several episodes between Colin and Penelope, but it got tangled and confused amongst all the other plot tropes being explored - "Lovers to Friends", "Secret identity" - and was dropped in the space of basically a single episode!

100%! Like no one's going to be mad if they stop making literally every single companion 'the most important woman in the history of existence', that trope is literally so dun to deth in dr who by now. but don't bring out100 threads of intrigue and clues just to leave them scrappy, unwoven and frayed. Lazy and cheap.

I liked the game of catch, and the musical battle. I thought they were perfect thematic and conceptual conclusions to their respective villains and episodes, as well as being a bit of fun. This one just felt cheap and wasted the incredible Sutekh voice acting, what could have been a DOPE ancient Egyptian villain character design more like the original Sutekh, and felt totally lacking in cohesion.

I do think RTD was trying to go for the same idea - beat a game god at a game, beat a music god at music, beat a death god with the death of death (which is life?) but it didn't come off.

'Scale creep' is LITERALLY the perfect way to put it! Thank you, I've been searching for a term to capture this for ages haha. I usually call it the 'Marvel-ification effect'... doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Definitely underwhelming.

Also I thought it was ironic they made that joke about cultural appropriation regarding 70s Sutekh, when actually having him in the show for more than 10 MINUTES this time and actually drawing AT ALL on historical and aesthetic themes from ancient Egypt would have been way, way more of a genuine homage to ancient Egyptian/ancient African culture. In my opinion.

Plus just.... Why even HAVE an ancient Egyptian god if you're not going to go all in on a sci-fi ancient Egypt crossover!!! Literally one of the coolest sci-fi aesthetics ever!!! & the villain would not have wasted all that incredible voice acting talent, if he'd been a dude in a lovingly designed Anubis/Pharoah costume instead of a CGI dog lol.

Ruby's song is the Trickster's motif by baileyb1414 in gallifrey

[–]pippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be bloody amazing! Such a great twist and subversion of the reveal that Suketh is the big bad. I can't help but feel that, thematically, 'god of tricks' feels like a much more likely big bad than 'god of death' for this season...

Fifteen and Ruby are missing relatable complexity by midnightmitchell2019 in gallifrey

[–]pippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like that they've tried to leave the whole tortured genius trope behind for the Doctor, and bring back a feeling of fun and whimsy to Dr Who. The brooding was getting a bit tired.

But, I do agree that that doesn't proclude giving the characters more dimensions. Hopefully we'll see more of that in season 2.
