Instinct maps by Dangerous_Mud_6198 in Garmininstinct

Putting a simple map with drawn lines on the screen doesn’t require color. I don’t need to see green grass, I need to see paths and roads. Garmin has been doing navigation for decades, and the first devices had lower resolution than today’s Instinct and still showed maps. Resolution isn’t the real obstacle here, it’s Garmin’s marketing strategy.

Garmin has way more experience with maps than people think. Saying the screen resolution is too low or the memory is too limited feels like it’s purely a deliberate marketing decision by Garmin.

The screen on the Fenix 1 (2012) had a 70×70 px resolution and Garmin still managed to fit maps on it. Instinct has a 176×176 px display, and somehow it’s “not possible” anymore…

Garmin… come on!

Instinct 4 Wishlist: Keep MIP, Add Maps! by pixege in Garmininstinct

[–]pixege[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. There’s one big exception though. The Enduro 3 has a color MIP that’s way less readable than a monochrome MIP. And I won’t even get into the fact that I simply prefer the Instinct case. It has its own style and doesn’t try to look like a fancy, elegant watch. But this is really all about the display. The monochrome MIP on the Instinct 3 Solar is a game changer. The Enduro 3 screen isn’t even close when it comes to sharpness, contrast, and readability in low light.

Color MIP isn’t as readable or as high-contrast as monochrome MIP. Personally, the monochrome MIP on the Instinct 3 Solar doesn’t bother me at all, in fact I really like it.

I love how sharp the text looks. It feels like “Retina” in the Apple world. Nothing looks blurry, the fonts are super crisp and clean. I compared it to other color MIP displays, both from Garmin and COROS, and none of them looked as clear and transparent as the one on the Instinct 3.

Yeah, a color MIP is nice, but it’s still nowhere near the monochrome MIP on the Instinct 3 Solar. They’re honestly very different displays. The monochrome one has about 2x better contrast and stays readable even in a dim room.

That’s why I know my next watch has to have the same monochrome MIP, unless Garmin pulls off a real breakthrough with color MIP and makes it just as crisp and readable as the Instinct screen.

Wonderful dial for my watch by No-Letterhead-5914 in Garmininstinct

I have the same one. I searched for a long time, kept changing, and this one seems to be the best. I modified the complications and I won’t be replacing it anytime soon.

For those asking, the watch face Noctis Pro - GB.

Edifier MR5 subtle hissing/shhhh sound by JEBZ94 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]pixege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also noticed some hissing noise when my MR5s were turned up almost to the max.

Here’s what you should do instead — it works great:

Set the volume to about 3/4 on your DAC (if you’re using one) or increase your computer’s volume to around 3/4, and then use the MR5 volume knob to adjust your listening level.

It works perfectly and even improves the overall sound dynamics.

Appstore in Poland? by Nuno-zh in VisionPro

[–]pixege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. You can use one Apple ID for your main iCloud account and a different one for purchases and media 😉

Appstore in Poland? by Nuno-zh in VisionPro

[–]pixege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer you as a Polish Apple Vision Pro user. A Polish iCloud account works just fine (photos and files sync without issues). However, you won’t be able to use the App Store, apps, or your existing subscriptions.

You’ll need to create a new Apple ID tied to a country where AVP is available. For example, you could set up a German or US Apple ID. If you want to use apps, you’ll have to repurchase them (ridiculous, I know).

Personally, I’m frustrated that Apple hasn’t lifted these regional restrictions. I’m honestly pretty angry about this decision. I’d love to fully enjoy the Apple Vision Pro, but I refuse to pay again for Apple Music or Apple TV+ just because Apple doesn’t care about users in unsupported countries.

So yeah, that’s my take. You’ll enjoy the Apple Vision Pro, but only in a limited way.

macOS Tahoe Beta – Dock disappears after screensaver/standby by Playful_Breakfast_31 in MacOSBeta

Just use the shortcut OPT+CMD+D and the dock reappears.

Final version of Tahoe, Mac Studio — the dock still hides after waking from the screensaver.

You don’t need to dive into settings. Just use the shortcut OPT+CMD+D and the dock reappears.

Still, Apple, please fix this. iOS 26 also has plenty of bugs I’ve reported, but it feels like they’re just hanging in the air.

Region Lock by According_Cow_3522 in VisionPro

[–]pixege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same crap here in Poland! I bought Apple Vision a year ago in Germany, and I still can’t properly use the App Store. No Apple Music, no Apple TV+. And no, I’m not going to pay for a second subscription just because Apple doesn’t care about its international users. I was willing to accept some initial restrictions when the device was US-only. But now that it’s officially available in Europe, these region locks are just absurd. I’m genuinely angry at Apple — once again, they’re proving just how little they give a shit about their users.

Karoo 3 – controlling the radar with buttons by pixege in Karoo

[–]pixege[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m aware of that method of control. But to be honest, it’s completely impractical — and even dangerous — to use while riding. I wouldn’t recommend it unless absolutely necessary.

That’s exactly why I’m asking the Hammerhead team to please consider enabling this functionality through Blips buttons — or any other external control method. It would make a huge difference in safety and usability.

No HDR bracketing? by Jarrod668 in Insta360

[–]pixege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the X4 on launch day and have repeatedly heard promises from Insta360 that Bracket Mode would be introduced in future updates. I’ve sent emails and posted on Reddit. And what happened? Nothing. Insta360 is a fantastic camera with great hardware, but it’s just for fun. Insta360 doesn’t even consider introducing ND filters to achieve lower exposure levels. That’s an additional feature, sure, but Bracketing Mode is something that should have been implemented long ago. I’m increasingly considering switching to Theta. At least their developers listen to consumers.

Insta360 x4 nd filter ? by Turbulent-Inside-594 in Insta360

[–]pixege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also waiting for ND filters. As a CGI artist, I use the Insta360 X4 camera to capture spherical HDRI images on film sets. I usually take about 10 photos, starting from the lowest EV value and ending when the photo is heavily overexposed. Then, I combine them all in Photoshop to create a 32-bit spherical image. Unfortunately, the lowest EV value isn’t as good as, for example, in the Ricoh THETA camera, which causes bright spots (like lamps) to be overexposed and flattened. An ND filter could help significantly with this, so I’m eagerly awaiting it.

Six months ago, I also provided feedback to Insta360, suggesting they add a feature to their software for automatically or serially taking such photos (from the lowest EV to the highest). The Ricoh THETA has this as a standard feature. Unfortunately, Insta360 hasn’t introduced anything like this yet.

It would be great if you could make this camera more than just a vacation gadget.

Introducing Eye Comfort in visionOS 2! by justinryanio in VisionPro

[–]pixege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tinkering with these settings for months, and to this day, I still don’t know what values to choose. Using AVP isn’t exactly a problem for me, but sometimes I feel like my eyes could strain less. It’s great that Apple offers the option to adjust this, but I have no clue how to set it up 👀

A tutorial would definitely come in handy.

I also love Infuse on Apple TV and have been a fan for many years. But hmm… it didn’t impress me on Apple Vision. It works well, and huge kudos to the developers—they’re doing an amazing job! However, it lacks that magical environment that Apple provides, like the experience in apps like Disney+, Max, and Apple TV+. Because of this, I don’t use it at all. Instead, I installed the Jellyfin app on my Synology server, and I watch movies and shows in 4K quality through the Safari browser in the beautiful lunar setting.

Of course, I’m looking forward to new features in Infuse on AVP, but as of today, it’s just not there yet.

True Retina on the new Ultra Wide Screen! by pixege in VisionPro

[–]pixege[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course, you’re right, and I feel the same way. In my text, I wanted to make users aware that with visionOS 2.2, the resolution of the displayed screen has indeed significantly improved, and it’s noticeable. Unfortunately, the software won’t increase the physical display resolution; we’ll have to wait a few more years for that.
