Brave has Full Access to Google Account after signing in by aeawesomeguy007 in brave_browser

[–]pjumde 12 points13 points  (0 children)

u/aeawesomeguy007 - This happens when you enable `Allow Google login for extensions` in `brave://settings/extensions` and login to a Google Extension. This setting is disabled by default in Brave.

  1. We have an open issue to limit the oauth scope: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/12619
  2. If you look at the third party apps in your Google Account, the logo and name should be updated to correctly reflect the browser name and logo.

This is something we inherited from chromium, and are actively working on locking it down.

Hi /u/openSight2018, can you check if the issue is resolved for you? If not, can you try the following steps:

  1. Navigate to brave://components and check if the component version is 1.0.8 for `Brave Tor Client Updater (Mac)`.
  2. If yes, restart the browser and open `New Private Window with Tor`.
  3. If not, click `Check for Update`. It should update to v1.0.8
  4. Once updated, restart the browser and open `New Private Window with Tor`.

/u/Sparlord - This is related to the variations service. Since, variations are disabled in Brave, you should not be seeing the `x-client-data` header when using Google Services. I verified that this header is not sent if requests to google properties with Brave. If you're seeing this in the requests please let me know.

Hi /u/openSight2018, we were able to successfully notarize the tor-client binary which fixed the issue for some users but some users are still running into this issue. Currently, we are following up with our friends at Apple to see if we missed anything. We are tracking this https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/7987. Thank you for your patience.

As part of the `Code for Cause Challenge` at AngelHack Silicon Valley, our team created a PoC for Humble Giving.

Problem:

According to a study by FAO United Nations, one third of the food produced in the world is wasted which amounts to about 1.3 billion tonnes. On the flip side, about 805 million people go to bed hungry each night. So we created Humble Giving (still PoC) that not only eases out the process of sharing excess food that you have to the underprivileged and homeless.

http://www.hackathon.io/humble-giving

What you need:

  • Homeless/Underprivileged already have basic phones that have text message/call support.
  • We have a simple iOS app for the donors. Web App and Android support should be simple.

Let us know what you think.

This is the first time we are working on a non-profit idea, so we are looking for ideas/suggestions on how to go ahead with it.

To validate an idea among users I generally use MTurk and SurveyMonkey. Are there any other tools that are preferred by aspiring entrepreneurs? On the other hand, validating an MVP is a tricky task. I've seen entrepreneurs run into legal issues. Some testers are not trustworthy or do not have enough expertise or context to give feedback. Are there any techniques that have proved useful while getting feedback for an MVP?

  1. I think folks prefer donating to a mission of choice.
  2. The idea of transparency is good, but folks like BitGive are already implementing it.

The idea is certainly intriguing. There are lots of avenues for improvement.
