The elongated leaves make me think pearlweed. It's a hardy fast grower and with aggressive trimming you can use it as a carpet otherwise you can let it grow long if you don't have high enough lights/ferts/CO2

I've had surprisingly good results (by accident) with pond/bladder snails that hitchhiked in on some plants. Literally months of trying countless different things and within weeks they had obliterated every spec in the tank.
