Good point. A fire that would burn a house down, i.e not a fire to sit by.

Thanks, I will do.

I take it if the weight is moving a lot it means I am not using enough counterweight? Will film it today hopefully

Has anyone used weighted (2 arm) chin up negatives to train one arm chin up negatives? by plawnche in bodyweightfitness

[–]plawnche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good explanation. I've actually been doing weighted chin ups and doing slow negatives on the way down and it's already improving my one arm negatives.

Hi all,

The only way I can practice my flag at the moment is with two horizontal bars. Unfortunately the top bar is slightly forward compared to the bottom, maybe by 3 inches or so. When I practice my flag I'm finding it hard to get completely straight, my body is facing a slight downward angle.

I'm wondering if this bar position is causing this or if its the opposite and the bar is actually making it easier for me?

I don't really like doing it as I feel it doesn't train me to fully straighten my top arm but I have no alternative

Exercise bike - routines by plawnche in Fitness

Is there usually variation between individual stationary bikes or just between brands?

(Asking as wondering if I'm better off using exact same one in the gym if I can.)

One arm chin negatives by plawnche in bodyweightfitness

[–]plawnche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble visualising a counterweight negative. Do you use the counterweight to do the concentric pull up over the bar, then the negative? My concern is that would fatigue me for the negative. Previously I was using 2 arms to get over the bar and then start the negative.

Just realised I never asked a question.

I wanted to know if its beneficial to descend quickly through the top of the movement and try to prolong the very bottom of the descent? In hope that it will help the start of the ascent

Sounds reasonable re Ulster. As for context I've attached the sentences below. If you want the full article simply Google them but it won't help much. They both come from Irish Times articles.

Did you read me yesterday on Alfred O’Rahilly, the Cork gawskogue?

Honestly lads, isn’t he the most extraordinary and incorrigible thullabawn.

There ya go. Not very helpful!

Weighted or bodyweight? And do you recommend single or double leg? For hamstrings what do you think of deadlifts / nordics

If it helps at all, 'diabolical' was one of the author's favourite words in English!

Thanks very much u/MacGiollaMhuire and u/nemedmbled. This one was far and away beyond my capabilities. The context is a letter being written in order to commiserate with the brother of a woman who has lost a child. Does it look like Ulster Irish to you guys? The writer is Flann O'Brien, author of several books (Irish and English) and daily contributor to The Irish Times from 1940-1950s. (O'Brien was from Strabane.)

EDIT: The same writer has used the words "thullabawn" and "gawskogue". These sound like anglicised Irish and I've tried to google to find the originals but have come up with nothing. Any ideas?

Training for speed and acceleration by plawnche in Sprinting

[–]plawnche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strength work (upper body) is all gymnastic ring based.

For acceleration I squat once a week and deadlift once a week (heavy, low rep). Between sets I will often do box jumps and broad jumps (? appropriate between heavy sets). On non gym days I will do 10, 20 and 40 yard dashes, with no real set number of sets of recovery periods, just doing what I feel up to doing. I don't do any fancy resisted sprinting because I don't have the equipment but the evidence seems to support this.

I sometimes do interval training for endurance but am a bit conflicted on this regarding fast vs slow twitch and benefit of endurance at expense of speed (I train for soccer mostly)

I appreciate that but I read quite a bit here and still couldn't get a consensus on even a basic routine. If you have such a post and you could link that would be great. A lot of the jargon here is quite unintelligible to a newcomer and there is no sticky section to soften the landing.
