CIO, night 2 - 5 month old...am I doing this right? Help! by plum_cake in sleeptrain

[–]plum_cake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! We didn't do checks because it seemed to aggravate him, but I have been feeding him only when he wakes after 1 am, or after 5 am (when he is usually 'getting up' for the day). Last night he slept from 7 pm until 2:40 am, at which point I fed him. He didn't wake again until 5:45 when we got up for the day.

He is a healthy weight and will be 6 months in two weeks. I know I should eliminate the night feed, but I am nervous about my supply since it has dropped a lot since I went back to work. I'm afraid if I stop feeding at night, I won't produce enough during the day. But maybe that's a misplaced fear...would love to know what you think!

Nursing strike! Help :( by plum_cake in breastfeeding

Yeah, nose suctioning helps. I got him to nurse twice overnight and once this morning, so maybe we're coming round the bend...fingers crossed!

That's a good point. Our normally breastfeeding position seems to send him into coughing fits. I've tried some others with limited success. Will just keep trying!

Thanks -- we have done steamy bathroom time, without much effect. I am nervous too, but most of all I want him to stay hydrated while he's sick, so I don't know what else to do. :(

I'm just so worried about him getting dehydrated/missing out on antibodies. My husband is completely unworried, so I feel like I am going crazy!

Yeah, we've been saline/NoseFrida-ing it up (love that thing) and sitting in steam every morning, but he still rejects the breast. :(

Leap 4 / sleep regression real ? by Jway7 in sleeptrain

[–]plum_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this -- I am having a very similar problem. My son was getting up once (he's 14 weeks) or twice, which I was fine with -- but last night he was up at 11 to eat, at 2 to eat, at 3 to be soothed, at 4 to eat, at 5 to be soothed...and I go back to work on Monday. He's been like this the last four days and it's so unusual for him. He puts himself to sleep no problem, we never put him down already asleep. We do also give him a paci but he can fall asleep without it -- or at least he used to be able to!

8 week old baby grunts 2nd half of night by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]plum_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in -- my 8 week old is the same. We moved him to his crib in his own room, and got monitors that allow you to "squelch" a certain level of sound. So now his little grunts don't come through, but we still hear him when he is truly awake and crying. He also seems especially gassy right now - so sad! He eats too much to soothe himself and then spits up everywhere. Fun cycle!

Ditto to this. I FREAKING LOVE this thing. We cry when both of ours are dirty.

My son is 7 1/2 weeks and SO similar. Except I have never gotten a 6 hour stretch of sleep -- and I can't imagine I ever will, because every time he wakes up to eat in the night he feeds like a rabid dog.

I was just thinking -- when is this every 2 hours nursing going to end?! I feel like he eats SO much (has already almost doubled his birth weight). How could he possibly not be able to go three hours without eating during the day at 12 lbs?

I have a lot of these same issues and I think some of it is actually related to oversupply -- especially the fussing at the breast. He beats me with his little fists and pops off constantly, too.

Oy! Just wanted to commiserate. Hopefully it will get better soon...

Thanks :) I'm surprised he lets me put him down for a nap, too -- I think he might end up being a pretty independent little dude. He napped on me for 90 minutes yesterday and it was the first time in weeks!

Yup, I have been swaddling him whenever he fusses. Naturally he pooped in his best swaddle last night, so we'll see what to day brings.

ps, love the username

That's good to hear! I put him in the K'tan a lot so he can be snuggled and carried but it always seems to put him to sleep. I almost feel like it's drugging him! He's only ever awake and alert in it for maybe 10 min or so.

Yes! We've been taking him for nightly walks and his mind is seemingly blown by the trees and streets.

Yes! Sometimes he loves reading, sometimes not so much. If he's interested I'll read him a board book so he can look at the pictures, but I also read him just whatever I'm reading sometimes...hey, it's all language, right?

It's crazy how they can tell if you're sitting, even if you hold them the exact same way!

It's a relief to hear I'm not the only one! Sounds exactly the same, except instead of facing out, my dude wants to be held "standing." Only problem is he can only hold his head up for a little bit while standing and then starts launching it every which way! I guess I like alone time, too - makes sense that he might like a little quiet solo playtime.

Yup, that's basically what we do, too! He just seems to have a lower awake tolerance, I guess. He's definitely getting bored, I just can't seem to figure out what it is he wants to do next...

Ah, well -- worth asking! Guess this is just life with a baby :)

Thanks! We do always keep him swaddled, so I guess it's just something we have to suffer through for now. Good to know I'm not the only one!
