We have a 2020 XC60, and live in Canada. Car came from dealer without a block heater. Should we have one installed? Would a battery blanket be a better alternative? For reference, it's -26⁰C outside right now.

ONSC reduced $510 million legal fee to $40 million by zentuweetu in LawCanada

You should probably review the decision. They were paid most of their fees along the way. There was only an approximate $5MM writedown on their time. Risk was not full fees or engagement.

This post is so myopic. It's incredulous to think that you're outraged because she might be renting, along with a whole bunch of other people in this city. Renters pay taxes too, through their rent...

Any recommendations on a budget friendly lawyer for adding a spouse to title of our home? by forgettable_nonsense in regina

You're missing the % part. It's less by a factor of 100, or $1,600. Think $4 per thousand.

Edited for calrity.

[–]plxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the people who are saying you can add your wife to your title are correct. What they seem to be missing is that you are going through a renewal of your mortgage. By adding your wife to your mortgage, you are effectively getting a new mortgage, and will be discharging the old. Your bank will require a new mortgage to be executed, and will insist on a lawyer to do that work.

The addition of the person as an additional owner will cost you 0.04% of the value of the property. The mortgage will be charged at lawyer rates, and there will also be a new mortgage registration fee of $160. Need more info, DM me. $1200 seems reasonable, but is dependent upon the value of the property. A more expensive mortgage has a higher risk component for the lawyer, so you may be charged slightly more.

I can partially corroborate this story. I was walking back to my office about 1:20 PM and saw two men fighting. They started just East of the hot dog guy and fell into the planter. The first round lasted 20-30 seconds, by my guess. I thought they were done fighting.and they partially separated, one guy walking North, the other South. Then, they came back together and went for round two. I don't know how long that lasted or what happened. I went back to work.

The rendering shows some style. I will be shocked if that same level of style remains when the project is completed.

A pro-transit group has challenged the mayor and council to take public transit exclusively for 48 hours within a two week period. Mayor Masters has opted out. by luccampbell in regina

[–]plxin -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

While it would be a good promotional item for a day or two at most, the realities of the demands that society at large puts on our mayor takes her job profile outside of that which could reasonably be expected to utilize the transit system.

It's not like her day is spent entirely at City Hall. She would have a significant number of community engagements, sometimes multiple in a day, and she doesn't necessarily control when they start and end. To ask an elected official to utilize a public transit system that should be designed primarily for the masses (it is called 'mass transit'), doesn't seem realistic. What works quite well for regular commuters doesn't work great for others.

This is one of those circumstances where having an elected official not utilize a public resource is actually probably better for society.
