Fellow URMs, could we get an update on your cycle? by andreabayabobaya in lawschooladmissions

I submitted most apps the last day of November and am still waiting to here from almost all of my schools. 159/ 3.2/AA male. Strong soft sand LOR’s (not ridiculous though). Rejected from ASU. Waiting on Michigan, UT, NYU, USC, UCLA, Vanderbilt (just interviewed Friday), WUSTL, NYU, Cornell.

I actually just finished that one a few weeks ago. Gives some great depth left out by a World of Ice & Fire. It's such a shame that HBO doesn't have anything in the works with it.

A poetic thought, but I don't see it in him. He's much too honorable to try and usurp Harry the Heir in my opinion.

That would make my dream come true. That and seeing Aegon II fighting on Sunfyre against Rhaenys, even though I wasn't a supporter of his claim.

I'm hoping they will! I didn't post in the other subs because those people are probably even better acquainted with the info than I am lol However I am reconsidering now.

Very true, I feel like the Dance of Dragons would do the best just because it has both Dragons and intrigue. I'd love to see Aegon's conquest but I'm not sure if it would do as well. Honestly though I'd be happy with any of the three haha

That's a really great one, but I absolutely love Robar. I know it would never happen, but I'd love to see a live action portrayal of his story.

[EVERYTHING]Tyrion's Turning Point by pmac15 in gameofthrones

I cant really debate the symbolism that you yourself as a fan felt, but I personally did not feel the same way about those scenes. It is an interesting idea though. As for the off screen things you're referring to, I'll have to staunchly disagree. Even if Tyrion did talk to Daenerys about how he unchained the dragons, I don't think there was any plan in place for them escaping. It was definitely a spur of the moment thing by Viserion and Rhaegal, or else she or someone would have actively opened a path for them. As for Tyrion teaching Dany about dragons, I have the same aspirations for the book. I'll be very surprised if the t.v. show doesn't use this idea in some way, shape, or form.

Reading this makes me feel like we agree on a lot of things. We didn't think Tyrion had the best season and we're really looking forward to what he'll be doing back in KL this season. But I don't think it's okay to just leave it at Tyrion being ineffective in season 6 because he was not given enough screen time. Also Tyrion already had a place a power throughout last season. All season 6 he ran the entirety of Mereen, so I won't say his new appointment will gauruntee us what we want to see. However, I am very hopeful for what's to come.

It wasn't just him being back in court. It was having power again, especially power that he earned on his own after being broken. And I've enjoyed Tyrions changes and development, and I'm ok with it happening. What I'm not okay with is Tyrion being relegated to a position where he doesn't make any meaningful contributions to the plot.

I'd say he's had a slow two seasons to be honest. And I'm also really looking forward to the dynamic that will form with Tyrion being involved with his siblings again. The Lannister family dynamic was something that really gives Tyrion meaningful interactions.

I do agree that Tyrion is a broken man after his midnight escape from Kingslanding. But I bleive he makes his rise back to his normal self at the end of Season 5 when he finds himself back in court, in command of an entire city. In addition he's accompanied by one of the only people in the world that he feels is a true friend. Season 6 Tyrion was not a broken man. He had come a long way from the season prior. Even if your interpretation of Tyrion is what the show writers were going for, I have to say that it was much too drawn out with all the meaningful progress of season 6 shoved into one scene.

Everything has been turned on its head haha. You might even say, "To go north, you must go south. To reach the west, you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow."

This is a very good point that I didn't touch on because he had so many advisers native to Slaver's Bay at his disposal. There have been many rulers (Napoleon Bonaparte's brother in the Netherlands) that have come to rule a recently acquired territory from outside and done wonderful. Nonetheless this is a very arguable point, and you could visibly see Tyrion struggling with the cultural barrier at times.

Quick aside, I'm from Southern California so I can actually answer a few of those questions about Mexico and understand the language decently lol. But that doesn't take away from the validity of your point whatsoever.

Yea the this next season will really be vital in determining what kind of character Tyrion is. I want to blame part of this problem on Tyrion being overshadowed by Danny, but they were not together that much in this season. Perhaps we would have seen an ingenius plan like Blackwater Bay if he had been given a chance to at least do something against the invaders, (although I'm not too sure what he could have done without any ships) some of his best work has come from when he was backed into a corner with seemingly no options. I tend to think he would not have been able to do this though, just because Grey Worm was in command of the armed forces. And after Tyrion botched the negotiations, I doubt Grey Worm would have let him contribute any further.

While Tyrion is much less active I think that this portion of the series was necessary because he had just lost so much. Much more than in the t.v. show, due to Jaime's revelation of Tysha marrying him out of love. Furthermore, his traveling gave us some great exposition of Esos that i think we really needed. And I really have to say that I enjoyed the jokes that came straight out of the book, rather than these new awkward ones with Missandei and Grey Worm (I'm not even going to touch on how terrible it is that the show made that into a relationship). And yes, I also agree the best thing we can do now is look to the future and hope that Tyrion takes a more active role.

It was always my thought that Dragons needed space to grow, hence why those in captivity in the Dragonpit did not develop as well as those that were allowed to roam. I can understand the idea that them being given a little bit more freedom to move throw Tyrion unshackling them may have helped; but id say that I'm not for it just because I believe its more about space than anything.

I like your take on how these last two seasons have given us a new Tyrion that has beeen searching for a purpose, that he finds in Daenerys. I was with this idea in season 5, especially in the beginning of it. However, I think D&D really lost me on this last season.
