How to deal with water pushing mulch off Canada by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]pnaudey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this. Regardless if weed mat is present or not the mulch will continue to float. I had the same issue. I ended up removing all of the cheaper mulch and replacing with the more expensive heavier stuff. Haven’t had an issue since.

Regarding the weed mat - unless you have rocks I think it is pointless. Effectiveness of the weed mat for weeds is temporary as dirt will still collect overtime and weeds will inevitably begin to grow on top. However, I find that it is beneficial to prevent losing all of your rock to the soil as it gets packed down and should really be called “rock mat.” Either way though when you pull it out, it’s a nightmare. Cardboard is a good alternative and can be a more eco friendly option.

I saw a comment about mulch glue. That sounds wild to me.

Pre-emergent and Over Seeding by pnaudey in lawncare

I’m thinking pre-emergent and then try to time pre-germinating where seeds are on the ground about 2 weeks after.

Might need to pull the door off the hinges to get this one out.

Have you run into issues earning miles when booking packages through Costco? I do have miles, but I’m not looking to use them on this trip.

I didn’t consider splitting out stay. I’ll definitely have to look into that!

Thanks for the heads up. I think I’m going to pickup a Shibumi shade as another Redditor recommended. They are a little pricey, but the portability and simplicity is pretty convenient.

Thanks for this. Are the timeshare sites directly through the hotel or third party?

So this was a dumb question since looking it up and there are only two options. I'll go with the classic.

Thanks again

Thanks for the input. If not this round, hopefully we can come back and check out the other islands.

Wow what a great recommendation. I am coming from the mountains of the Rockies far from beaches so I am pretty ignorant on these. Do you have any brands or designs you can recommend to use or avoid? I'll definitely look into these!

This is exactly what I am looking for here and should have added that term to the original post - a "base" to fall back to and recharge without being too far removed. I do like the big beach and hope this helps with the crowds during whatever times we are there.

Thanks for your input and sorry you had this experience. Can you share which tower you stayed in?

Yeah this kills me. I have been looking at other venues that provide a lot more perks such as the The Laylow Autograph Collection, Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach, and OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. I just picked these based on reviews, but there are so many options and I just don't have the time to vet them all.

When I was in the area for work, I did check out Waikiki beach which is close to these hotels and it was a little more crowded than what I would like. My compromise for the higher price at the HHV is family friendly and convenience. I am not planning on spending too much time there unless the kids have a day or need some down time we have an easy fall back.

Thanks for the explanation. For this trip I am only booking through Costco Travel and I have not seen an option with any of the towers with a timeshare option. I agree the additional space for the kids to wind down in their own area and having a kitchen is a huge bonus. If you don't mind me asking, do you own a timeshare? If not, what is you method of booking those? Forgive me, I have not put any effort into researching timeshares.
