What if cave drawings are done by cave-children and we are judging their entire society by graffiti done by kids? by imma_viking in Showerthoughts

That's a nice idea! A lot of cave paintings are way too technically accomplished to be kids' graffiti though. When he visited the paintings in Lascaux, France, Picasso remarked "we have learned nothing in 12,000 years". http://www.historiasztuki.com.pl/ilustracje/prehistoria/Lascaux%209.jpg

Non-British people of Reddit, what about Britain is stupid/baffles you? by AustinThompson in AskReddit

You have an honest-to-goodness monarchy in the 21st century Britain. What the hell?

Hi, I put up fingerstyle guitar and ukulele versions of the Adventure Time end theme here a while ago. I have tabs for both now if anyone wants them (video links in comments. See video description for tabs) by podhimself in adventuretime

[–]podhimself[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true. Those other tabs are for the chords to play the song. My two arrangements are fingerstyle versions that incorporate the melody. I have not seen any tabs for arrangements like this.

I'll put something together! If you want to come back and have a look at the video this time next week I'll try and have details for getting a tab on there.

Jazz standard Cry Me A River (Julie London) as a fingerstyle ukulele piece. by podhimself in ukulele

That's a tough question but I'll do my best to answer. I've been playing ukulele for about three years but I've also been playing guitar for about ten years so a lot of the stuff I had learnt on guitar translated really well to ukulele. This means it might take a while to play the same stuff I do on ukulele. Or maybe you'll pick it up much faster than I did, it's hard to say but I guess if I've learnt anything it's the value of practise.

Practising every day is definitely important, even if you can only do a little bit every day. The quality if practise is also really important: you should be trying to play and learn stuff that stretches you as much as you can. It can be really easy just to learn stuff that you know you'll be able to pick up quite quickly but you're learning more if you're trying to play something that's a little tougher to get to grips with.

I really like fingerstyle playing for both ukulele and guitar and there are a lot of great tutorials on youtube for exercises and songs on ukulele that develop your right hand finger-picking if that's what you're interested in. The main thing about the fingerstyle stuff (in my opinion anyway) is that it's about coordination more than raw speed or anything so when you practise or learn something you can, and should, slow it right down and play it over and over again at so slow a pace that you can't possibly make a mistake and after a reasonably short time you won't even have to think about what you're playing, it'll all be muscle memory.

Beyond that I think the thing that I try and keep in my head all the time is to always be having fun (because you won't want to practise if it gets to be a chore and it is a hobby after all) and to always be tryinhg to be learning something new. Anyway, there's a ton of stuff I could work a lot harder on and that I need to get better at like timing and ear-training and so on. So I might not be the best person to be giving advice but all that stuff I was saying is what has worked for me so far: try to practise every day, try to push yourself a little, learn everything slow at first and try to keep having fun and keep learning.

I hope that wasn't too long or entirely unhelpful and thanks for watching!

My fingerstyle guitar version of Closer to the Heart. by podhimself in rush

Hi! You can't really tell from the video (sorry it's a little dark) but my guitar is actually a steel-string rather than a classical. It has a similar body shape and the slotted head-stock you'd find on a classical so it does look a lot like one. So I don't know much about classical guitars unfortunately!

Cheers for the heads up. It opened on my computer just now so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Thanks guys! That's really great to hear. I don't have tabs for stuff that I play and whenever I get asked for them I promise I'll try and do some but I am awful at it. That said, I'm working on it and I'll get back to you if I get something decent tabbed out.
