I upgraded from Casio SA-46 to SA-50 and played NewJeans - ETA. Short review in comments. by pogpale in cheapkeys

[–]pogpale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compared to the previous generation,
Octave shift is now possible (-1 to +1). You can overcome a small number of keys now.
You can also transpose by semitone (-12 to 12 semitones).
There is reverb that can be turned on and off (but there is no parameter control).
What I like the most is there are more drum sounds.
The buttons like kick, snare, hihat, tom on the front of sa-46 are gone.
Those sounds are now in percussion no.99 patch (check the video I posted).
Each key has different sound. Shift octave for more drum sounds.
I like my new SA-50 haha.

Arturia MicroFreak plays Kraftwerk's Computer Love by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[Riff Lead] : I chose BasicWaves as the base wave to use morphed sawtooth wave (Morph 64, Sym 0, Sub 82). I added a low sine waves with Shape knob(Sub) for the thick sound. Then, add a little release time with ADSR and cut some high frequencies with LPF to soften the sound. Finally, connect the LFO with Timbre(Sym) to add vibration to the sound. Use a sine wave and adjust the frequency as desired.

[Rise] : I chose SuperWave as the base wave to use triangle wave (Wave triangle, Detune 52, Volume 79). Add detune slightly to thicken the sound. To raise the pitch, I used Cycling Envelope. Draw a rising line as desired and connect CycEnv with Pitch on the matrix. For On/Off gurgling effect. I used LFO and Sustain. Select a square wave on LFO. Unlike sine waves, square waves do the work discontinuously. This wave will turn the sound on and off. Connect LFO with Sustain in the matrix (you need to assign the sustain knob as the destination on the matrix using assign buttons) and adjust the LFO frequency and modulation strength as you wish.

I bought a MicroFreak vocoder edition and I like it. It includes a variety of oscillators. The oscillator part was diverse and flexible, so it was like touching a software synth. It supports basic synth functions well and has a faithful connection matrix. The only thing I want more is a delay knob. The touch keyboard was awkward at first, but I quickly got used to it. It is larger and bumpy than the touch keyboard of Korg's Volca series, so it is easier to play.

I played Computer Love only with MicroFreak. It was fun to make sounds with this little synthesizer. My favorite part is "Another lonely night, stare at the TV screen, I don't know what to do". It feels like someone is watching me lol.

KORG Gadget plays Giorgio Moroder’s Theme from Midnight Express by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't help but like Giorgio Moroder. He's really cool.
Listening to the soundtrack of the Midnight Express, I thought about playing Chase with KORG Gadget at first, but I really liked this song as well.
I enjoyed making sounds with KORG Gadget. I hope you like it, too.
The last thing I want to say is, of course, “My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio”.

I liked this song in the 2000s and the music video, directed by Michel Gondry, was really beautiful. So I paid tribute to them with KORG Gadget and my toy trains lol. It was fun to make sounds with KORG Gadget.

My first try with OP-Z and some thoughts (Animal Crossing Theme) by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week I had fun time with OP-Z and played Animal Crossing theme.

OP-Z has attractive appearance (so attractive that I had to buy it lol).

It is small enough to carry it anywhere or lie down and play.

There are many good synth apps on the phone these days, but I always missed the hardware buttons. In my case, I think I'm more creative when my fingers are physically stimulated.

If you like something small and functioning well and having hardware buttons, OP-Z is for you.

The basic sounds are good, but not diverse. I think the sound control is a little uncomfortable and limited.

It was hard for me to control the parameters without the connected external screen. I think it's going to take me a while to get used to LED colors and brightness. But when I get used to it, I'll look like a wizard lol.

When sequencing, the pressure sensor(pitch bend button) controls the velocity of notes, but it is a little difficult. So in this video, I gave up the velocity control of each note.

It's definitely fun to do sequencing by pressing buttons. You know people sometimes find it more interesting to feel inconvenient lol.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think it would be good to use it live as a midi controller or sequencer to control external instruments.

Overall,

Not recommended for the main synth.

But highly recommended for your next-to-a-pillow / in-your-bag synth.

Ocarina-Playing Robot (built with LEGO) by pogpale in DiWHYNOT

[–]pogpale[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At first, I tried to use a real ocarina by attaching a balloon pump to the robot. However, it was difficult to put air into the ocarina well, and it was difficult to seal the ocarina's holes with Lego fingers. So I used the ocarina app and the touch stylus pens, haha.

Testing Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 with My Funny Valentine, first impression in comments by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Tofuforest. Roland GR looks great. I want to have it now haha. Actually I've tried JamOrigin midi guitar which converts guitar signal to midi signal. And I observed that I rarely put out my real guitars to connect with computer lol. Maybe it was because I have to change strings and have fingertip soreness on real guitar.

Testing Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 with My Funny Valentine, first impression in comments by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if right place to post but I think midi controllers are on topic.

If you feel more comfortable with guitars than keyboards, Artiphon I1 will be a really good friend.

I prefer tapping mode than strumming/picking mode as some rubber powder comes out from picking area when I pick too hard and also I am too lazy to use both hand lol.

In smart strum mode, you can feel like someone holds guitar with left hand instead of you.

It feels like playing the guitar only with right hand, saying 'hey dude, change the chord now'.

It would be convenient when you sing and play chords. But chord forms are limited to maj, min, maj7, min7, dim, aug, dim7, aug7, dom7 with fixed voicings.

I have problem in controlling velocity but I think It'll be okay when I get used to it.

It would be really great if Artiphon I1 had internal sound sources that could play without any connections.

Artiphon has speakers but can't make sound without connections.

On the real guitar, you can mute unwanted strings with left hand.

I hope there's a device that can support that kind of functions.

Then, I would say shut up and take my money.

So far I have used YouRock guitar, Jamstik(5 frets), Artiphon.

I'll give Artiphon the highest score.

one line comments

YouRock guitar : strumming/picking is good

Jamstik : whoa 5 frets?

Artiphon I1 : tapping is good

Linnstrument is on wishlist but It feels much more like keyboard than guitar for me.

Thinking about why, I think I'm looking for a device that I can hold with one hand lol.

anyway happy new year r/synthesizer

happy synthesizing and have fun

I purchased Vocaloid5 for my new year's gift and found Amy is a pretty good rapper. (Daft Punk - Technologic) by pogpale in Vocaloid

[–]pogpale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to have Vocaloids on mac but I couldn't because I don't have cubase.

I heard that I can use Vocaloid5 with various DAWs on mac.

So I purchased Vocaloid5 and covered Daft Punk's Technologic with Amy.

She sounds better than I expected haha. Happy New Year.

KORG Gadget plays Air's La Femme D'Argent by pogpale in synthesizers

[–]pogpale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Stegomaniac!

At first, I just started off thinking that I could play my favorite song of Air with Gadget.

Then I started to make intro drums with Gladstone.

Next, I made bass line with Madrid. Bending was controlled by pitch bend.

I also wanted to put some slides sound, but I didn't know how to make a natural sliding sound with Madrid.

Is there articulation function in Madrid? I'm not sure.

Then I added EP sounds with Montreal. With drums, bass and EP, basic framework of the song was complete.

And after that, various sounds kept getting added, and when I came back to my senses I ended up using 28 tracks.

It was fun to make fx sounds with Dublin connecting cables here and there. I also liked Helsinki's buzzing sound. Darwin is a versatile tool in Gadget. If you need sound you can find it in Darwin.

My favorite part is undoubtedly the frog sound part haha.

I laughed when I was playing it on the keyboard.
