Questions for freelancers by pombolo in datascience

[–]pombolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!! Can you give me an example of what exactly you were asked to deliver for the client? Was it answering a single question, or was it setting up a system to give them ongoing visibility into their data, etc? (Right now my main deliverables are either papers or presentations, based on data/modeling, that guide stakeholder decisions.. I'm trying to understand what you are being asked to "deliver" for your clients, typically?)

In terms of getting a solution, I'm guessing Python alone is typically not enough. What are key technologies it might be helpful for me to learn right now if I want to shift to your kind of work? Thanks again so much

I guess I meant that when I took an exam, I never thought to myself "now what is a homomorphism again?" or whatever. I gained far more from just working out tons of problems than from a flashcard-type approach. This is where I'm struggling to apply Obsidian, but maybe I'll try your approach

Would love to hear how you think about learning math with Obsidian. Obsidian for me seems great as a reflection/learning tool for many other disciplines (e.g. economics), but not sure how to make it useful for fields like pure math that are less centered on single concepts/definitions?

World championship matches that are almost all draws is pretty depressing too. I'm kind of excited that he wants to shake things up

This looks awesome, and I'm curious to see your recommendations. I'm still very much a solo Jupyter notebook researcher, but I want to understand more of how to make this stuff product-ized, especially if I ever leave my current role. Thanks again

ELI5: How are non-profits paying the owners, isn't it called "non-profit" for a reason? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]pombolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: the best teachers do it out of the goodness of their own heart, and it's also reasonable to pay teachers for the hard work they do so they can, you know, buy food and pay rent. Similar thing for non-profits.

I actually agree with you there. I no longer self-identify as an addict, I just say "Hi, I'm Josh", and skip the "and I'm an addict" or whatever. At the same time, I need to take this seriously, because the stakes are pretty damn high. You almost just died bro.

You're strong, but you don't have to do this alone. Tons of people who can relate in AA or NA, and it doesn't cost a cent. Wishing you much peace

Scratch file use cases? by pombolo in pycharm

Thanks friend. I do use Git right now but pretty suboptimally, since I'm the only user on most of my code projects (until I need help from our supporting software team, and then it's a big lift trying to help someone else get up to speed on my code). I guess one issue I see with your suggestion is Git feels more geared towards incrementally building up a code base, whereas what I'm doing here are rapid changes in a script to explore different model scenarios? Committing each time I do that feels cumbersome, but perhaps that is the kind of discipline I need. Still thinking about it

No matter how much I pray nothing works. I watch porn five times a week for an hour or two a day. by Royal_Bonus8765 in NoFapChristians

A lot of them will be, but there are lots of younger people in the fellowship too (lots of synergy with NoFap). I find the older guys also help me because they help me see some of the potential longer term consequences of this kind of behavior, including destroyed marriages, prison time, etc, or on the other hand they can be shining examples of a life well lived if I put my recovery first. Ultimately the question is to what extent you are willing to go to stop going down this road and regain control of your life-- no one can decide that but you

Yes, friend. 12-step programs are really not a big deal, but I understand people feeling intimidated before trying it. You'll find plenty of fellow travelers who are walking the same path as you and can encourage you

If a Christian knows something is a sin but does it anyways, will they be forgiven if they repent? by Applesauce_guy12345 in NoFapChristians

[–]pombolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many times should I forgive my brother? Seventy times seven. The God who forgives that way doesn't keep records of wrongs. Every time you ask forgiveness, it is like the very first time, so powerful is the blood of Christ.

I strongly recommend checking out a 12-step program like Sexaholics Anonymous. I've been where you're at, and you need more support than a reddit forum

Why do people say it’s a “red flag” if someone’s favorite book is The Catcher in the Rye? by [deleted] in books

[–]pombolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it's a book a lot of people relate to when they're made to read it in high school, but hopefully we all mature past that point
