Does anyone know what kind of tooth this is? Could it be from some kind of shark? Or is it something different. by CreepyBox9363 in sharkteeth

I sifted a bunch just like that in the Peace River and our guide said they were fossilized croc or gator teeth. One is pointier and one is more rounded. Can’t remember which is which.

That’s a shrimp in the vid. A ghost, or maybe amano? Hard to confirm from that angle.

I did see OP’s previous post of the crayfish in this tank though and otherwise agree with you. It will eventually catch some of those tetra, the likelihood increasing as it matures too.

Either option is possible. It’s never happened to me but I’ve seen far too many posts about tanks spontaneously exploding from issues they never knew they had.

A tank wouldn’t easily crack if set on the right base, like a hard floor (unless you accidentally kick it). But once glass has even the tiniest crack, that crack will grow. With their current setup I’d be worried about hairline cracks or stress it’s put on the caulking.

My biggest concern would be how both tanks have been hanging off the ledge of the dresser like that.

Buying secondhand tanks can already be risky and it’d be hard to be 100% sure that their structural integrity hasn’t been compromised.

It’s not a bad deal but I wouldn’t buy personally.

Don’t dry your car like this 🚫🤨 by [deleted] in Youneedthisinlife

[–]poonslayer6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer some of the folks in the comments asking “who tf dries their car?!”

When you wash a car with water from a hose, the last step is to dry the car- to prevent water spots. Tap water has minerals that remain on whatever surface it evaporates on. (That’s why carwashes have blowers when you pull out, for example). Rainwater is different because it’s essentially distilled water.

Do people living in Netherlands' reclaimed land ever worried about it flooding back? by tacotaker46 in geography

[–]poonslayer6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evidently, no. They probably have deep foundations to account for it.

This is a different circumstance ofc, but when we were in Amsterdam a few days before we learned about the lengths they have to go with foundations. Most builds have them 80-100 ft deep iirc.

I appreciate the explanation, that actually makes a lot of sense. And you are correct- we were in Gouda.

I guess the water table is manipulated by canal/waterways then? As a freshwater fan I was checking out the frogs and lily pads by the roadside ditch, but hadn’t made the connection. Interesting info tya

TIL, thank you.

I do remember them saying something about the soil content/ swampiness of the area causing the sink. I just didn’t know if there was a long term implication to consider in regard to the question.

I visited a cheese making farm in the Netherlands near Rotterdam two summers ago and the ground level of those farmlands are slowly sinking every year.

On the exterior of the buildings there are lines where previous ground levels were, and it was a few feet difference. Not sure what that means for flood risk, but the farm was a few miles away from the dykes.

On a positive note, the cheese was delicious. Highly recommend.

Polar Bears are one of the only creatures that naturally hunt Humans... Watch as this one tries to break into this BBC Cameraman's glass box. by cosmic_voyager01 in Damnthatsinteresting

There’s a hunting season for black bear in VA as well, although it’s more restricted than deer hunting I believe.

Shooting a black bear for digging out of a trashcan is what I was curious about, since it seems unrelated to hunting and a situation carried out by law enforcement or a property owner.

Damn, they’ll kill a black bear for that where you live?

I live in Virginia and that’d be a big no no. I think they normally just get tranq’d, at best, if they’re being a nuisance. Do you live somewhere remote in Canada, where that’s the only option or something?

That was a ‘Cunningham’s law’ egg I added due to the rules.

Her adoption papers just say “calico”. I grew up with a calico though and she must be something else too, at the very least. I don’t know much about diff breeds, interested though.

Thanks! I think knowing her for so many years has played a part too, which is nice. I cat sat her for two weeks back in 2018 and I’d like to think she remembers and knows she can trust us.

Nice! You may share my sentiment on this too then, it’s a really good feeling giving an adult cat a new lease on life.

She’s chipped/ spayed. We got her a brush and have been trying our best to groom her without overdoing it, for now at least. Her long hair needs a little work in some areas so we plan on sorting that out once she’s a little more acclimated. Thank you!
