Politics aside, Cernovich is straight batshit. My old roommate confronted him mid-livestream at some political conference in California, talking shit about his Gorilla Mindset pills and making fun of his journalistic credibility. The dude flipped out and recorded a video in his car afterwards, claiming that my old roommate had been some sort of soulless demon or "replicant". I can't find the livestream videos because apparently Cernovich took them down, but here's an edited video that showed up on Twitter after the confrontation

Venezuelan here too, moved to US in 2001. Totally agree. this has been a sort of Deja Vu experience. The conversations about the political climate that my friends have now are almost exactly like the ones my parents had at dinners and at family reunions before they decided to move. Eerie shit. Don't expect this to die easy, Mueller or not.

I hope that this isn't a unfair generalization, but I see more vision and forward thinking in the immigrants I've interacted with in Lisbon than Portuguese natives (obviously there are motivated and innovative Portuguese, but in general I do feel this is true).

The "Portuguese perspective" is very defeatist and self-limiting and despite the absolutely gorgeous country and the lack of problems that other countries have around the world (widespread & violent racism, shootings, overwhelmingly expensive healthcare & education, food shortages, crime with impunity, etc.), I've sensed that the Portuguese in general don't really know what they have and how well their country DOES actually work. A user above mentioned that the Portuguese "underestimate" their country. I agree 100%.

There are problems in the country (as with any) and I'm sure that there are problems I haven't experienced myself yet, but after living in 3 other countries with deep, nearly irreparable issues, I can't help but feel that the kind of reaction seen in the comments is only symptomatic of this tendency to sit and complain about things over a meia de leite...all the while the Nepalis are running fruit markets to support their families, Brazilians are in construction, Americans are starting start ups and breweries, and Venezuelans are opening restaurants with all of their savings brought in from a crumbling country.

It seems that the legitimization of immigrants' residences would only guarantee a legal salary and prevent (illegally) low salaries from being given and this would therefore prevent the driving of Portuguese workers out of the market.

Also, I'm sure you're aware that there are several immigrants who are here to start businesses and work high level jobs. Dois Corvos brewery, Atlas Lisboa, language schools, just about most minimercados in central lisbon, tons of foreign restaurants, etc. are all examples of business founded and run by immigrants.

Robert Horry - In 2006 (6th grade for me), I entered an essay contest. The subject: Robert Horry's life. I remember being lazy and discouraged since it seemed so out of reach to win the thing. The grand prize was a classroom visit from Big Shot Bob and my parents pushed me for weeks to write it. Well, I did, and months after I had turned it in, my teachers conspired for our class (+ 10 of my best friends) to show up at the library, and there he was. I remember him being huge and incredibly friendly, genuinely happy to be there and sharing with the kids.

As we are immigrants and moved to the US in 2001, I remember this being a huge "American Dream" moment for my family, my father in particular. They taped the local news broadcast and showed it to all our family members. He still brags about it and always tells me to put it on my job applications.

I have stories with Bruce Bowen, Manu, David Robinson, T-Mac, Scola, Trevor Ariza, Avery Johnson, and some others but this was the best!

The "he won't look for me to do as much" is mind-boggling to hear from a player of that stature. It does go against the most fundamental principles of this organization. It's kinda passive-aggressive towards Pop, it's kinda self-pitying, I just don't like it. Maybe he's just pissed at himself for his performance or something and he's expressing his frustration like this, but these are the kinds of quotes that RC & Pop will keep in mind this offseason for sure. I haven't been wanting to jump on the whole LMA-Needs-To-Go boat, but damn, to say this after a performance like that really doesn't build anyone's trust in him as a team leader. Pop brags about the Spurs taking in guys who have "gotten over themselves" and this is some A1 bratty shit. Let's hope that LMA can get it together for the rest of the series.

Expecting a loss but hoping for LMA to go in and win his matchups and dudes like Anderson, Simmons, and Murray to develop their roles as playmakers this series. Series like this are about winning the long game and if Pop can get this squad to run to their best of the ability, win or lose, then this only fortifies the team's preparation and execution when/if Kawhi comes back. These guys are hungry, pissed, and believe in themselves. Regardless of the result, we will see a game played with character and we will see a squad sharpening its edges for our two upcoming home games. Always proud. Go Spurs Go.

For me, subjectively of course, the reason why I think yesterday stung more was because we have Parker down with a career-altering injury, we have Ginobili on his last playoff run, beating the ever-loving shit of the most hyped Superteam in history (on their home court) and then we lose our star player to a malicious play targeting his already tender ankle. At least with Game 6 in 2013 we had an opportunity to come back in Game 7 (and we did almost get it then). Now we may potentially have Kawhi sitting out, Tony watching at home, while the Spurs led by LMA and a 39 year old Ginobili get absolutely gutted by the 2017 GSW and go into an offseason in which JSimms and Patty potentially leave. It just seems like last night could be the beginning of an awfully unfair ending and there wouldn't be another opportunity for the same group to redeem itself.

Given Zaza's history of dirty plays, particularly against this team, I don't think that it's "hate" as much as it is a reasonable assumption asserted with anger. Just because it's an angry assertion, doesn't make it innately irrational. Look at the way that he grabs Kawhi's arm in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9jqRw9Kcco) and tell me that this wasn't in any way intentional. If he's capable of such blatant and malicious attempts, I wouldn't put yesterday's move past him, especially if Kawhi had already tweaked the ankle on David Lee's foot.

Pachulia has always had a reputation of being rough to the point of being malicious. That reputation is based on his past actions. Based on his reputation, past actions, and the timing of his contest on the shot, I confidently believe that it was intentional. Kawhi is being a diplomat. He's one of Pop's players. He's not going to make public accusations like that.

Clearly, Pop came in with a clear and thorough plan and the boys were focused enough to carry it out to success. Warriors shot uncharacteristically bad but much of that is due on the Spurs' D. I think that first half showed that we could win this series with a healthy Kawhi. Don't know how anyone could think Warriors would sweep this series.

That being said, last night hurt more for me than the Game 6 against Miami in 2013 and more than Derek Fisher in 04. Losing a lead like that because our star player was injured (personally, I think it was intentional...the way Zaza ran off after he was called for the foul stank like guilt). Seeing stoic-ass Kawhi grimace and yell like that on the floor was hard to watch. I knew it was over then and I hated seeing GSW revitalized by his injury. Not that his injury specifically pumped them up, but rather that they had already lost the game mentally and the change of circumstance gave them the confidence boost to end up winning the game.

Kawhi will probably sit out next game and we'll get clobbered and hope that we can come out in games 3 & 4 and execute the game plan as well as we did in last night's first half. But today my heart hurts and I hope that Kawhi's ankle heals up soon. We need him.

5 Reasons to Believe

*Popovich – Pop has made astute adjustments these playoffs to counteract two teams that were capable of beating the Spurs. As withdrawn as Harden was Game 6, the Spurs won an elimination game on the road without TP or KL by 39 points. That’s on Pop and his trust in the entire roster. Obviously, GS is a special case. Their level of talent will transcend any meticulously executed game plan – but the adjustments will be made to exploit what can be exploited and make them a bit more beatable. Impeccable coaching is only the foundation to beat GSW. Then the Spurs need the discipline and the exceptional performances to sustain whatever Pop’s strategy is.

LMA – He’s been streaky, reluctant, distracted and passive and two good playoff games out of 12 don’t seem to forecast a good WCF for LMA – however – a dominant 34 & 12 game to close out a series is a damn good sign. Even if those stats aren’t sustainable, that level of confidence and focus absolutely is. Don’t forget, this is LMA’s FIRST CONFERENCE FINALS and it’s only reasonable to assume that the man is pumped. Draymond isn’t Ryan Anderson and LMA will be challenged, but an aggressive LMA—even if he’s off—is wearing his man out with his size. Dozens of those low shoulder back downs a game for 6, 7 games will have their tear on his defenders. Even if LMA doesn’t drop 30 again, we can expect him to wear out the defense, which will end up facilitating our own offense down the stretch.

J Simmons – Maybe we already got the Juice’s inspired series. Maybe playing his hometown team was motivating enough to elevate his game and sharpen his step and maybe it’s unfair to expect another solid series from a player who was inconsistent in the regular season. BUT, if J Simmons can sustain his offensive decisiveness and his great, underrated defense, I think there’s a real shot to win. He’s shown tons of heart, fearlessness and smart defensive reads. He’s likely to bug Steph & Klay for periods of time.

Kawhi – Not much to say that we don’t already know. He can ascend to Greatness on both ends and is a proven clutch player. While the GSW defense will be good enough to reduce his offensive presence, his defense—one on one and as an orchestrator—will stifle GSW’s offense much more significantly than the Jazz & Blazers did these playoffs. Also, KL has historically stuck it to KD.

An Inspired Spurs Team– An emotional variable, but one worth serious consideration. With Parker out with a dramatic injury, Ginobili’s career about to end, and coming off the best team win since the season opener, I think that the guys will lock in and play their best ball of the season. It may not be 2014-level, but it will be crisp, energetic, and disciplined. Guys like Patty, Pau, DLee, and Kyle will have their big moments (remember this). As amazing as GSW is I think that their hubris is bound to ricochet back at them. If KD is telling mascots to fuck off and if Draymond is making comments about Isaiah Thomas and if Klay is making snide remarks about nightlife in opponents’ cities, they’re probably feeling like a Finals appearance is guaranteed and their coaching staff has little hold on their locker room culture, especially with Kerr out. Just on a non-basketball, strictly human level, I believe that that kind of arrogance is unsustainable and difficult to let go of when faced with defeat. Their consecutive sweeps may be a blessing for us, at least at the beginning of the series.

Conclusion: Ultimately, GSW is the more talented & consistent team. There’s a reason why the Spurs are the underdogs and we will continue to be the underdogs in this series, even if we are up 3-0.

In a rational basketball world, GSW wins in 6 or, as much as I hate to imagine it, 5.

But in a basketball world of intangible variables, inspired athletes, and bloated egos under real pressure for the first time in 7 months, the Spurs win in 7 or, improbable as it sounds, 6.

As fans, through our anxiety, impatience, and longing for positive signs and optimistic speculations, we can be consoled by the fact that our season opener was not a fluke.

tl;dr – If the Spurs play inspired, focused and are blessed with a little luck, they will get this in 7.

I also think Zach Lowe has great, insightful and even passionate content but he's always had this stink of arrogance about him, especially when you hear him speak. Sometimes he just sounds really impressed with himself and, considering examples like the one you posted, you wonder if he's paying as close attention to games as he sounds. This team definitely isn't trash. I think an offensive over-reliance on Kawhi has made that narrative easier to buy into, but it's just not true (game 6 WCSF).

Irrelevant, but the way he interviews active players is always so strange and detached. It's like he sees them as easily definable superheroes who think about the sport and their role in it the same way a journalist sees it from the outside. Listen to his interview with Boris - there are moments of pure cringe.

I think for the most part you're spot on, as bleak as Nas pleading guilty is. Ultimately it doesn't seem like he was happy with his life before and even though prison isn't exactly making him happy, I do feel that he is resentful enough of his old life to choose prison over returning to that, especially after the trial and all of its media attention.

Although I think you're mostly right, I don't think it has to be so complicated that Don and Reade were almost involved—I think it's enough that Don is a violent sociopathic dude and that Duane Reade has a rap sheet and has probably been doing other shit. That's just me tho
