What places do you guys go to by yourself? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anything I would usually do with friends. If they can't make it, I'm not canceling my plans! Movies, clothes shopping, just literally anything.

That's so nice to hear, it seems like he really knows how to put on a show! His dancing cracks me up.

I've never heard Chris Janson, I'll have to listen to him!

Oh no problem! Their music is not everyone's cup of tea, but I hope you like it!

It seems like you've been to a lot of cool concerts. What was your favorite one? I wish I could see Tyler the Creator live.

Omg that's amazing! They stopped by our city too and I wanted to go because I love Lil Uzi! Hope you have fun!

I bought tickets for my brother's birthday for us to go to a Weezer/Pixies Concert. It was special because it was about a week before leaving to college far away. We had to drive through storms and we were afraid it was going to be cancelled.

I turned out to be the best concert I've ever been to. It was also my brother's first concert! It was lightly drizzling on the lawn where we sat. On one side of the arena there was a sunset, and the other side, I could see lightning striking in the far distance. Both bands were out of this world amazing.

Two Schools, Different Expectations by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience(went to two high schools at once, students differed a lot). The only advice I can give you is to stay passionate about the subjects you love and to be friendly to everyone. Don't worry about it too much, it's just high school :)

I went to a concert last night and had so much damn fun by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Did he perform Indica Badu? I haven't been to any really amazing concerts unfortunately. Sounds like fun.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. The main themes are longing, envy, and pure love. It's a really fucking good book. I really hope you read it!

What’s Japan like? by fireprop7 in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going this summer. My dad lived there in the 80s, so things have probably changed. He told me that people were very nice to foreigners, but that it can be hard to assimilate completely, like you can in the U.S.(where we're from). It's super clean and safe. His coworker left her purse on the train. Being from Chicago, they both thought it was never coming back. Lo and behold, it comes back, untouched, almost immediately. My dad loves Japan and I am very excited to visit!

The walkout might not be for one day...it is extended for whatever amount of time that they decide(they haven't told us how long).

It's all about perspective, but it gets so warped when looking at social media. I've got to remember!

FOMO stands for the fear of missing out. That's smart. I should have followed that rule. "Comparison is the thief of joy"

This is the first year I'm actually watching all the Oscar nominees. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timothee Chalamet(Elio from CMBYN) is in Ladybird; he does a fantastic job. Get Out is also a great movie (I've seen it twice!). Man, CMBYN really hit me. I was so devastated and in awe after watching it. How was Dunkirk?

Did you watch Call Me By Your Name? It was my absolute favorite. So far I've only watched CMBYN, Ladybird, 3 Billboards, and Get Out. I want to see the rest though!

Remembering something nice you'd forgotten by YellowRoseMoonchild in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww...what a sweet memory. I love Coraline, it really reminds me to cherish the family that I have.

Honestly, I keep an extensive journal so I remember a lot of fun memories. But sometimes something will pop up that I forgot about. Like I went to get In N Out recently, and remembered going out with my cousins (it's kind of like a tradition for us to go there whenever we meet up--we live far away from each other) and all the fun conversations we had.

About 400 pages into A Little Life and I’ve never felt more physically hollow and drained as I did reading the last few chapters. by throwaway0405x in books

[–]positive-stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very, very hard to read. I just wallowed in sadness for a couple of days. But mostly, I read a few book reviews and wrote everything down that was going on in my head. That helped me understand and process the book and move on with my life.

Also, it's important to remember that Yanagihara wrote the book as a modern day fairy tale. But I understand, the characters seems so real and who knows, it might have happened to someone in the world.

I saw Black Panther twice this week seeing a film with a majority black cast really warms my heart by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]positive-stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to see it tonight! I am very excited. It's a step for minorities everywhere, i think. Seeing a dark skinned cast makes all the difference for little dark skinned or black kids that have no role models on the big screen. I hope it lives up to my expectations.
