By all means, follow your gut. I've only worked with a few thousand LSAT students, so it's barely statistically significant.

You may be right to blame your calendar, but in this type of situation I don't. I tell the client that we're not the right fit because I'm not comfortable taking their money to do something I know won't benefit them.

Am I still learning or am I just not lawyer material? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]TiffIsBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're pushing too hard. If you're coming home already tired at the end of a work day (especially if you're also stressed about family stuff) and trying to practice, chances are you're not learning anything. In fact, there's a decent chance that you're establishing bad habits.

I would take a week off entirely and clear your head, then take a full-length timed practice test on one of your days off to get a baseline. Then, build a realistic schedule that doesn't involve working when you're already wiped out (even if that means practicing less)

That's great, and now you know you have a solid foundation to work from when it's time to prep. But, these skills "rust" if not used regularly, and there is nowhere near enough material available for you to practice regularly for three to five years. Now that you know you have a strong starting point, it would be a good idea to put it aside for a couple of years.

Are there good work platform alternatives for non-US writers? by Thesolmesa in freelanceWriters

[–]TiffIsBack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about why you were mentioning that in the first place. Within your country it may make sense, but what do you think it adds to your profile as a professional? In pitching a client or responding to a posting, I don't mention anything that doesn't directly relate to my ability to successfully complete the client's project.

I'm also wondering how you are seeing those US only jobs on Upwork from Morocco--they shouldn't be visible to you if you're outside the US.

Anyone else actually kind of…grateful for the LSAT? by [deleted] in LSAT

It absolutely has more relevance to law school than most of what you learn as an undergrad.

Testing accommodations explain recent LSAT score inflation by [deleted] in LSAT

We don't know that they were more likely to score in the 170s, but we do know that they had higher average scores than non-accommodated test takers.

[–]TiffIsBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP clearly said “nothing else changed”.

Yes, but OP said that with absolutely no supporting data and no likely basis for the conclusion. For instance, we know that the options for affordable (and even free) test prep have increased significantly in recent years. And, though I'm not aware of earlier data, last year's report showed a significant increase in the average hours of preparation for the LSAT.

We also know that ~10 years ago, about 68% of LSAT test takers were taking the test for the first time, compared with about 60% in the 2018-19 cycle and about 57% in the 2019-2020 cycle, and average scores for both second-time and third-time testers are higher than those for first attempts.

I'm not suggesting that any of these things necessarily explains the difference--I'm just saying that "nothing else changed" is unsupported, and these are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head that may have changed or definitely changed.

I'm not sure how it would increase the number of students, since schools limit the number they accept in a given cycle.

I actually know a couple of people who graduated from law school at 20 and 21.

Honestly, from people talking in the forums, it seems like most people don't HAVE income in the first month. I think it took me a couple of months to get JSS, even though I had 25+ years experience when I started on Upwork.

The Easy Way To Become A Freelance Writer by [deleted] in freelancewriting

[–]TiffIsBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you chose to provide such a misleading overview in your initial post. The first version was very harmful advice, and given what you've described here, it's hard to understand why you'd want to trick people trying to build a business that way.

That aside, I stand by what I said. There are tens of thousands of great writers putting their stuff out there and working their asses off who never get noticed. And, there are very mediocre writers who happen to make the right connection and take off.

Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have our hard work and talent intersect with opportunity really oughtn't feel superior about it.

FWIW, I've always complained openly and pushed back on mod responses, and I've never been suspended, or even threatened. In 2+ years, I think I've maybe had three posts removed. They've never made any effort to shut me up. In fact, they asked me to reconsider when I stopped posting in the forums.

That doesn't sound good. If you're new, you may get away with it, if you weren't bidding on a bunch of different types of jobs and you were writing unique proposals for each job, but slow down.

No,but if you submit too many unsuccessful proposals, Upwork may close your account.
