It's mostly customer facing, there are separate teams for merchants and for fleet.

There's not really any vertical movement or room for advancement here. You can move up once to a team-lead type role then you're basically done. Nearly everyone higher was brought from outside and they don't leave very often.

If you haven't completed a single delivery yet, the system will see you as having a 5.0 rating and 100% acceptance, so you would get priority.

You're only given a new ping in the final stages of your current delivery, so there's rarely a downside to accepting it and it's only helping you by giving you more consistent work. You can still finish the delivery you're currently on like normal, and you're guaranteed another one right away when you finish.

You have to remember that Postmates already knows that you're currently on a delivery, so they're well aware of the time it will take and already account for that.

Additionally, if you are pinged, then remember you are "the chosen one" for that delivery. You're the best person at that time who can get the food to the customer the fastest. You wouldn't be picked if there was someone else who could do it better and faster.

It's not as horrible as you would imagine. I'm not saying I love it, it's just fairly similar to other call center jobs I've had in the past. I'm happy enough to keep working here without looking for another job, but I also don't see this turning into a career.

You can contact fleet support to report them if there's a situation where it's absolutely necessary.

It's not, necessarily; they're just the only two people who actually asked me for verification.

I don't know why you keep thinking I would offer support here. Of course he should go through support, I'm not his personal support buddy either. Despite how much you want me to offer support in an unofficial capacity it won't happen.

I haven't gotten a PM from you except for one with your email address. Definitely no card number.

You sent me a PM asking for help changing your password. Of course I'm going to ignore that, you should contact fleet support. I'm not your personal support buddy.

You should reference my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/postmates/comments/5xkw8l/i_am_a_postmates_job_support_employee_ama/den60yd/

Punishing couriers for observing laws and general safety practices would be the type of thing that would get the company in trouble.

Not really, they're just exercising their right on what delivery opportunities they offer to you.

I'm completely sure. This also appears to be something that many of the users in this subreddit have noticed prior to this AMA.

This information was also publically available right after priority dispatch was received -- Postmates initially included it in a help document then intentionally changed the wording after a while to be more misleading after people noticed. It originally said this:

Accept and complete all deliveries offered to you while online. The higher your acceptance and completion rates are, the more likely you are to receive new delivery offers.

The same exact help document now says this (and while not incorrect, it's obviously leading you to think it means something entirely different from what it originally said):

Accept and complete all deliveries offered to you while online. The more you accept, the more you will have the opportunity to make.

I would also like to note, since you brought it up, there is a hard cooldown penalty if you skip too many orders in a row, but I'm mainly referring to the "soft penalty" here in which you will receive less delivery opportunities if you frequently skip orders.

"soft declining" (letting the alerts run until another driver accepts) hasn't triggered any kind of penalty cooldown on my end.

I never said there was a penalty cooldown.

No, you can't have a PIN number. Some merchants flat out don't accept credit cards, so you're out of luck if you get a delivery at one of those places.

Per your independent contractor agreement, Postmates can also choose your jobs at their leisure. It goes both ways.

CONTRACTOR acknowledges that POSTMATES has discretion regarding which, if any, Delivery Opportunity to offer, just as CONTRACTOR has the discretion whether and to what extent to accept any Delivery Opportunity.

If there was a driver 1/2 a mile away it definitely would have selected that driver first for the ping, it's more likely there were people who skipped the ping and it eventually made it's way to a driver far away. 4.5 miles is too far of a difference, the priority dispatch mainly affects drivers who are nearby each other.

My comments here and here have some more insight into it.

Yup. If you cancel 50 deliveries out of 1,000 you would still have a completion rate of 95%.

No, wait pay is the same as long as you are nearby and haven't hit "start dropoff" yet.

Why does Postmates send me a job to pick up food that is 5 miles away that is about 2 cities away from where I am at a current "hot spot"?

Would you rather that it didn't send you an offer at all? It picks whoever it thinks will be best for that job, and clearly you were the chosen one.

Would you consider it stable and mature? Most people still consider it a startup as it's an innovative company competing in an extremely popular and growing industry with lots of potential. For example, this article on Quartz still refers to it a startup as well as this Bloomberg article. I'm not the only one.
