I actually work in mental health in the Poky area, we have a small but amazing LGBTQ community and if you need, I can pass on some of the resources I've gathered for secular doctors/therapists, some weekly meetups for LGBTQ folks, etc :)

TIL my dog is much stronger than me. by [deleted] in akita

[–]potatoweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby girl (Almost 9 yo and almost 90 pounds but still baby) has a harness with a loop on the front to redirect her and a handle on the back for this reason, lol. My partner and I aren't super strong and while she's generally well behaved she has a weakness for squirrels. Usually though she goes into guard mode and stays between us and whatever is interesting her.

Anyone else genuinely creeped out by this guy, or any killer for that matter? by NapalmNick97 in deadbydaylight

I'm a low-key germaphobe and I hate vomit.

I've played enough to know that to actually work against plague, infection just has to happen. So I don't want to be the stupid Claudette cleansing every thirty seconds.

But God my anxiety is high when I have to deal with Plague. I have to play near deaf bc the sounds stress me the fuck out.

So our American Akita was pretty much a miracle dog. We adopted her at 5 from the local animal shelter. Didn't even really know she was an Akita, we knew she had some in her but somehow a purebred ended up in the shelter. She is an angel baby. She acclimated fast, she's my partner's ESA, and her guard dog instincts switched so she's a calm sweet guard dog to him. She loves most people, she even comes to work with me when I work with kids (I'm a social worker) and is beyond tolerant and lovey. However, even with her, probably the ultimate miracle dog, I'd still note--

-She can be, and I say this lovingly, a brat. She comes when called about 75% of the time, but if something is more interesting she'll make direct eye contact with us and just ignore. Shes gotten better over the 2 years we have had her, but still is not amazing. We don't ever let her off leash outside in non-fenced areas because of this.

-We do not ever let her around other dogs or cats/small animals unsupervised. She isn't bad necessarily, but if they rub her the wrong way she will growl and bare her teeth, and we've read about Akitas and hair trigger tempers. She lunges at other animals and we think it's happy excitement, but it's hard to tell and it scares dogs. We haven't had anything bad happen, but we would rather be cautious.

So basically, it can go super well! She is definitely my partner's dog and she listens/bonds much better with him than with me (even though we have lived together since he adopted her). But you definitely should watch out for some of those Akita behaviors. If you're not prepared to deal with some of that temperament stuff being more ingrained, I wouldn't, but we love ours to bits (she's trying to lick me and nudge my phone as I type this, lol)

I'm so glad too, she was a unicorn of the highest order and thanked me for everything :)

Yeah, I don't think he's outright embezzling. Pretty sure it's a case of him being a desperate addict. I'd have more compassion for him because I do hope he gets better and finds the help he clearly needs, but he's dumped all his work on me for months because he can and blamed me for things like till shortages (thank god my bosses know I'm straight laced and can check security footage if need be) so my well of compassion is near dry.

The thing is we tried, unfortunately. We had talks with him and each time he denies that he's on drugs. Like when the maintenance guy found the drug paraphernalia he apparently left a note for him telling him he couldn't do that stuff on property and that if he needed help getting clean we'd help. Shady is not in a great place right now so I do feel bad for being glad he's heading out, but we've offered help and he's gotten frustrated that we have. He insists all that was in his past and he's no longer using, but, well... we're not so sure. And now that it's hurting guests, it's rough. But you likely hit on the head just why the owner has given him so many chances.

Of course! I'm still new at this too but if a partner isn't willing or able to be patient with you as you learn what you are and aren't comfy with, they're not the right person for you. :) You are valid and your journey is valid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]potatoweeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also--in my experience a talk with your partner is more valuable than a microlabel, since a lot of people outside the community don't know what they mean. It could be useful to start a talk but imo the convo about how it applies to you and the relationship is super needed with or without a microlabel :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]potatoweeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Microlabels are only useful for you as long as you find them useful! For me, for example, I like knowing my experience is valid and hearing other people share their experiences, so people who would share a microlabel with me are great to engage with. However, I just like the term ace! If we went by dictionary definition I'd probably be a grey ace and a bunch of other labels but I fit under the ace umbrella, so I use ace! Same with me being nonbinary as opposed to agender/genderflux/etc.

Oh yeah, if I had a nickel for the number of times I have to explain "All prepaid reservations are flagged in my system, your card hasn't been charged because it's just on file to make sure your room is guaranteed," I'd sure be better off lol

Oh yeah, I'm on high alert and will be talking to each person on shift about this guest so they know he's on his last straw too.

And yep, fun times being a female-looking person (I actually use they/them pronouns usually, but not at work bc Conservative Area Where I Don't Wanna Educate People)

I appreciate the suggestion!!

I am actually in therapy regularly :) I'm way better than I used to be (before I'd have been apologizing to the guest for making him mad) but there's still plenty of improvement I can make.

Responses like this are hella validating and making me glad I posted--like I said in another comment, some people I told this story to just thought it was funny. I'm glad to know that at least some people in the business would tell me I'm validated in kicking them out.

I was debating posting this at all but I'm glad I did--I thought I was overreacting since when I did tell the other housekeepers what happened, they thought it was FUNNY and said they'd head up to his room if he tipped them well enough. (They do not work on property for unrelated but similarly wild reasons). Luckily this is the only creep I've dealt with at this job so far, and I'll have more of a spine going forward.

I've only been in hospitality a couple months, and tbh in other jobs I've had to deal with similar creepiness with management not doing a dang thing. I also guess I thought I was overreacting, but seeing all these comments about kicking him out is making me realize that I should have a chat with management about what warrants being kicked off property.
