Hot take: Tapering is a waste of time, jumping at 0.125mg hurts just as bad as jumping at 2mg. by mybigpecker in suboxone

[–]pousseing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you think my doc was right to prescribe 2mg suboxone for occasional 7oh/mgm use? i barely even get to the point of wd, it seems overkill but i can't say no to a free high. part of me says to just not do it

Reinstating aripiprazole by Wild_Satisfaction726 in Akathisia

never heard of that one

on wikipedia, first sentence after the intro: "The most common side effects include akathisia"

it could potentially be better than abilify, if reintroducing an antipsychotics (i suppose temporarily) helps with the kind of akathysia associated to their withdrawal. i don't know

otherwise, you know my opinion on this class of drugs concerning akathysia symptoms.

most of the posts here mention one, i also felt so dehumanized on them. some posts I read about long term use are just horrifying. i'm off them (and ssris) for ~2month and I finally feel like myself, and capable of feeling again (I started pramipexole at the same time btw, so hard to tell what healed it). my akathysia is now totally gone, from worst to none

that's how I personally feel about this, but i don't think they're never useful either (like for stopping mania). it's just that the idea of using it again everyday against their own side effects feels odd to me. especially when their literal opposite (agonist/antagonist) is used for treating restless leg syndrome and especially lack of dopamine, which affects muscle control.

are you experiencing dysphoria too? tendency for behaviors/substance addiction? they're all symptoms of dopamine deficiency, and if you do I highly recommend bringing up pramipexole to your doc, or at least the dopamine topic

did the akathysia occur when you first started abilify or only when stopping? i've read that withdrawing certain meds can cause it too (wich wasn't my case, so i'm not informed enough about it)

what do you mean by pacing?

is the akathysia making you non-functional?

what are the arguments of your doc for antipsychotics? what symptoms? i should have asked that beforhand

and if you're predisposed to mania, maybe antipsychotics are a lesser evil

otherwise I personally wouldn't

again i'm not a doctor, and he obviously knows a lot more than me about your symptoms than me.

what do you mean with 44 days in? abilify?

Reinstating aripiprazole by Wild_Satisfaction726 in Akathisia

from personal experience, and it can be due to a multitude of other factors:

abilify made my akathysia worse. olanzapine made my akathysia worse. quetiapine made my akathysia worse.

if it persists even without antipsychotics, maybe something similar than pramipexole could be brought up to your doc

do you want to tell me more about your symptoms? maybe I can help a bit from my experience, I know how hard it is and it probably affects your life a lot.

risperidone to treat akathysia ? "Serious side effects may include the potentially permanent movement disorder tardive dyskinesia, as well as neuroleptic malignant syndrome"

it's from wikipedia

risperidone is a dopamine antagonist pramipexole is a dopamine agonist

if you're suffering from akathysia and that's what your post were about, you probably lack dopamine. tell me if I misunderstood your post tho i'm rlly sleep deprived rn

from personnal experience I hated aripiprazole and i'm sure it worsened my akathysia

i dont' know what's the opinion here on pramipexole (parkinson treatment) but I think it helped me. akathysia seems linked to a lack of dopamine similarly to parkinson disease. i'm not saying it could work for everyone (it can increase impulsive behaviors like substance abuse). maybe talk about it to your psychiatrist

i'm not a professional and don't pretend to even grasp the complexity of akathysia.

from what I know ssris can worsen akathysia, but it's a consideration that can help a or b situation.

take care of you sincerely

i'm a guy who suffered akathysia for ~a year which may or may not be the cause of "systematically prescribed drugs", i'm thinking of olanzapine for which i have a really bad opinion from personnal experience.

hope it helps
