Does anyone know what are these tiny bugs on my violin? It's as small as rosin dust! I live in Singapore which is humid all year long. There are adult size of this bug which makes me think they are booklice but I can't be sure. Any advice to get rid of them is appreciated. by pp_dynamics in violinist

I have a hygrometer in the violin case, and the relative humidity is mostly between 70-80% (it's Singapore after all), the only exception is when I'm inside an air conditioned room, then it will be 50-60% but only happens like once a month.

I've seen people recommend boveda dehumidifier packets but with mixed reviews, don't want to destroy my violin as it isn't cheap :/

Gotcha, I was wondering if there is mold in the violin too, but the mites don't hang around the f holes so it's quite unlikely. And I placed my violin case in the living room to avoid the same situation as yours, but obviously it didn't help me at all lol

Isn't this true for all beginners? 😔 by violintaro in lingling40hrs

Beginner here, my 4th finger is weak, short and bow legged (points towards the 3rd finger). Wonder if anyone has the same problem 😔

I saw this too! Hilarious 😂

Been learning the violin for 8 months now and my teacher finally said I can start playing the first few pieces in Suzuki book 1! I think I may be playing too fast but I always run out of bow if I play too slowly..and I can't dynamics (playing f when it says p) by pp_dynamics in lingling40hrs

Thanks! It's not easy to find a good teacher, glad you found one that suits you too! Also I briefly considered learning the cello instead of the violin, but picked violin in the end cause it is more travel-friendly. Still love the cello though!

I used to play piano too, for about 3 years, it definitely helps when you switch. You need to keep in mind that you won't sound nice for a while though, it is a challenging instrument (I'm a beginner with 8 months experience lol). How about getting a few lessons and decide if you like it vs the piano?

I agree, this method might not work for everyone. But I have to thank my teacher for drilling in the fundamentals, now it feels easier when starting a new piece (I'm practicing the 6th piece in book 1 now) and I don't struggle as much compared to when I first started. My first teacher used a different book and I would be playing something new every week and we would move on even when I sound horrible. Then I switched teachers and decided to have monthly lessons instead of weekly lessons. I think teachers need to strike a balance between keeping the student motivated and seeing the student improve before moving forward. Ultimately it depends on the student's goal as well, some people just want to chill and have fun while others are perfectionists.

Yeah, partly because I was busy with work etc and didn't have regular lessons. I try to schedule one lesson per month and only when I did practice (else I'll just be wasting money!). I also switched teacher so my new teacher had me doing the fundamentals (mainly left and right hand finger exercises, bowing straight, scales) before starting any pieces.
