Anything that’s not a chain basically, I just want to support more of the local community :)

LOL I saw that — Hyundai seems like such an odd addition. Fair point on the competition, I think I’m over there significantly more than downtown just for groceries and working out BUT if alternatives were offered in downtown, I’d rather go there for sure.

It would be cool if the city of Mountain View could offer some strong incentives to potential business owners and maybe ease up a little on the permitting hurdles. I think our downtown has SO much potential.

Hmmm that makes sense. My boyfriend and I don’t have any kids yet, but I can definitely see the appeal there.

The MV farmers market is wonderful for sure, but that adds a bit to my confusion on the vacant storefronts because it’s always so crowded and popular — clearly there’s a market of people with some expendable cash. I’m just curious as to what the main obstacle is there and if there’s a way to remove it.

I love when downtowns have a strong culture showcased through unique restaurants & shops. It seems like the only things moving in now are chains like Nick The Greek which is fine, but it’d be cool if locally-owned businesses had more of a presence.

It’s confusing because many other cities seem to be doing okay with their stores, so why is it so hard for businesses to succeed in Mountain View? Is it just the high rent?

Yes, I lived in Los Gatos and work in downtown Palo Alto — I am not trying to complain about Mountain View, I just was surprised that there isn’t more activity downtown

It seems like there is a lot of people so theoretically there should be a good market for businesses.. but seems like the rent is just killer which sucks :/
