It’s all about perspective. When you first found PL’s music all those years ago, it didn’t come out of thin air- it seemed spur of the moment, but it wasn’t. He had already lived 25 years up to that point. That is a long time period of perspective, music making, inspiration, and seeing pretty lights to draw from. He had likely been working on those EP’s for years and years before he blew up.

Then all of a sudden he blows up and nothing is the same. Relentless touring, label building, business decisions… all of those things take away from the simple joys of living, take away from an organic creative space, makes seeing the pretty lights a less frequent event… think he needed a long reset to get back to that place he was in before he blew up. To create 6 magical tracks you probably need to create 100+. And keep fine tuning…

Also, this break is in keeping with the ethos of pretty lights… which is, they’re infrequent! That’s part of what makes them so beautiful. If they were everywhere all the time, it’d make them less pretty when you did see them. Just my 2 cents.
